Good for Haley but I never really had any personal skin in his induction as a Cowboys fan. He was a key piece to our SB run to be sure but I consider him more of a hired gun than a Cowboy. He played 5 seasons for us and had 30 plus sacks and only 2 of those seasons were double digit sacks.

I hope the folks here who are supportive of Haley's induction would feel the same way about Jimmy Johnson. He was also here 5 years and built a dynasty.

Good point. But I wish we could get some more hired guns if it takes us to the dance.

Barely 100 sacks . Good for him , but the half of fame standards have really diminished . Very good player but not a hall of famer for me.

If stats were how they make the HOF, there would be a lot of Steelers on the outside looking in, and guys like Bart Star would have never made it. There's more to being the best of the best than just numbers.

Demarcus Ware has the numbers, and he will get into the HOF, but I'd take Haley over him any day. Even when Haley's sacks weren't there due to constant double teams and attention, his pressures were constant, constant. In those days TEs and RBs were often kept in to double and triple guys like Haley, not out in patterns as much.

Haley was a QB pressure machine, and excellent against the run.

He.

Wreaked.

Havoc.

I agree Haley over Ware. It's not even close. And I like Ware.

When Jerry Jones acquired the services of Charles Haley, Al Davis sent a message congratulating him for adding the piece that put the Cowboys over the top for a Super Bowl run.

A well deserved honor for Charles, and this fans appreciates what he left on the actual carpet during his playing days.

Not only was Haley not excellent against the run, he was a borderline specialist for the bulk of his career. At his peak it was safe to leave him out there every down, but he was never more than adequate against the run.

Haley's entire HOF case is built on the five rings silliness. Not once in Haley's playing career did anyone ever refer to him as a future Hall of Famer. He was always considered to be an extremely talented headcase who got hurt a lot. If you would have told the average fan that Haley was a HOFer even immediately after outer 3rd Super Bowl, they would have laughed.

That is silly in and of itself..

So. He was:

Borderline specialist? What is the definition?
Not excellent against the run, but adequate?

Here is where I will correct you.... "At his peak it was safe to leave him out there every down" BECAUSE HE WAS dangerous, had to be accounted for and was a playmaker. Directly or indirectly.

If Kevin Green and his 160 sacks (most sacks by any LB in NFL history) can't sniff the HOF then I think Ware will be equally challenged.

I disagree. Ware was a better pass-rusher and much better in every other facet of the game.

Like a lot of other good-to-very good players on Super Bowl teams, Haley is a bit overrated because of his team's success. And Ware is definitely underrated because of his teams' relative lack of success.

Be nice if newsbot could discover the Star-Telegram. Of course I'm no help, I have to ask the nearest four old for technical advice.

Disagree even more. Can you imagine if the 1992 Cowboys had added the 28-year-old DeMarcus Ware instead of the 28-year-old Charles Haley?

Yes, I can imagine. Ware would get a pass rush, but the quarterback would get the ball off right before Ware knocked him to the ground.:oops:

I agree with Red, as to team influence and what the final results were. There is a reason why the man wears five rings, he brought it when it was needed. This he sustained.
