After one of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s four interceptions in the NFC Championship game, Packers linebacker Clay Matthews lit him up with a block during safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix’s return.

Matthews drew a 15-yard penalty for the block, which officials called an illegal hit from the blindside, and Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that he also drew a $22,050 fine from the league for laying out the Seahawks quarterback. The penalty knocked the Packers out of Seattle territory and Aaron Rodgers threw his second interception of the game a few plays later to keep the score 16-0 Packers in the second quarter.

Hit on Wilson im sure they fined him for going with the crown of the helmet to the side of the face. If you look at the Romo hit it was late but its waiste to upper thigh. Nothing wrong there except it was late. Shouldve been a flag. But not a fine.

How many late hits on a QB are fined? The only ones that are the likes of that wilson hit where the blow is to the head.

Wilson wasn't a QB standing in the pocket in this play, he was an active participant trying to make a tackle.

If they draw a flag they are automatically fined. I gave you the fine amounts based on if it is the player's first or second offense. Plays can be reviewed by the league and a fine implemented under the premise that it should have been flagged on the field. The hit on Romo should have been flagged. Matthews hit him late. The fine is automatic at that point.
