This will help our special teams quite a bit if he is out for Week 1. I don't think his high ankle sprain will heal that quickly.

Cribbs diagnosed with high ankle sprain, may not play until opener vs. Cowboys

Browns Pro Bowl returner Josh Cribbs suffered a high ankle sprain against the Giants and could be out until the opener Sept. 7 against the Cowboys, a source told The Plain Dealer on Tuesday.

Cribbs underwent X-rays and an MRI on Tuesday, both of which were negative. There is a chance he could play in the final preseason game against Chicago, but the starters usually play sparingly in that game anyway. It's more likely the Browns will rest him until the Cowboys game.

Cribbs suffered the injury in the first quarter on a special teams play. He limped out of the locker room to the bus in a walking boot. With Cribbs out, Syndric Steptoe will replace him on punt and kickoff returns.

Steptoe responded Monday night with kickoff returns of 40 and 90 yards. He also caught a 7-yard lateral for a TD run and a 44-yard TD pass from Brady Quinn.

that never would have happened if cribbs played for us... wade would deem him too valuable to return kicks and not use him.

Exactly what value does Cribbs have other than returning kicks?

^ Nothing, but the way our special teams has performed (though "better" vs. Denver) its a good thing.

I feel that the best kick returner should get the job-and any body who has seen felix in college would agree that he was really good at that.

This is good news for us. Cribbs is one of the best young returners in the game and I was a littlw worried about him going into that game.

There is no way he will be back in time for the opener with a high ankle sprain.
