In four games this season, Portis is barely averaging 4.0 yards a carry, has two rushing touchdowns, and four costly fumbles. Other than his 64-yard scamper on his first carry as a 'Skin, he's looked pretty ordinary with Washington. Certainly he's shown speed and agility routinely, but hasn't been able to string together a number of good carries. Against us, he had some quality runs, but couldn't do anything when it mattered most -- third downs, goal line, etc.

They gave up a Pro Bowl corner and a 2nd rounder for Portis. They gave up a third rounder for Brunell. They have a first rounder invested in Ramsey. A lot of valuable picks, and dollars, invested in guys that aren't doing much for that team.

That's why I really wonder how big the window is open for the Skins?

The Skins' fans keep talking about rebuilding, and in a few years they will be the team to beat, but will they even be able to keep their personnel around for that long with all of the salary cap implications?

If Denver can get Mike Anderson 1,000 yards they can get anyone 1,000 yards. Portis is a quick back who gains yards behind cut blocks. In the physical NFL East he's not going to get those easy yards.

Fail to the Commanders.

The problem with Washington is they build to "win now" every season, bringing in proven, but declining players, in an attempt to have perceived weaknesses when glancing at the roster. This bodes nicely for them throughout the offseason as preseason publications become enamored by the names on their roster.

But let's be serious for a moment. In no world was Mark Brunell ever worth $40 million. Much less $40 million along with the draft pick they gave up to acquire him. He's an aging and declining player who still has enough left in the tank to be an OK starter, but not a guy you invest that much into.

Many here wanted Brunell. But we laughed when they gave up that much for him, and rightfully so. Now they're in the quandry of having to bench a guy they have so much invested in. Didn't he also receive an $8 million bonus? And people want him benched four games into his Commander career? Talk about potential cap hell.

Frankly, Vinny Testaverde has proven to have more left in his tank than Brunell, which is amazing. And many of us here were even somewhat queezy with signing Testaverde as a backup, much less a starter.

Just take a look at Portis' stats after his first four starts a year ago:

432 yards, 6.3 ypc, 3 rushing touchdowns, 2 fumbles.

Quite a difference.

Is it wrong of me to be so happy about their crumbling?

If so I really don't want to be right.

Hos, it's the "rightest" thing in the world. It's losses like these that make the bye week bearable. :D

It's not wrong. It only proves that you are a true Cowboys fan.

Actually his stats are better than he actually appears. He had a 21 yard run against the Giants in a 3rd and 23 situation...so that was more or less a run that just padded his stats.

He also had a 13 yard run against us in a 3rd and 15 situation...another stat padding carry.

Right now he's avg. 4.01 yards per carry.

Take out those 2 rushes, he's averaging 3.77 yards per carry.

Take out those 2 carries AND the 64 yarder against the Bucs.....he's averaging 3.04 yards per carry.

Along with 4 fumbles.

I NEVER thought the Portis deal was a good move. RB's careers are generally short, Denver's system inflates even the best backs numbers a bit and Wash used bigger backs in their Gibbs heyday.

Addign a 2nd to the deal for a team that has been draft pick bereft the last 3 years is IMHO absolutely foolish beyond words. Portis was a 2nd round pick so Denver recouped their investment PLUS added a Pro Bowl CB who many consider the premiere player in the league at his position.

Brunell was a guy mnay didn't want to see in Dallas on a 2 year deal much less on a long term big bonus contract. Ramsey is the one 1st round draft pick they seem to have from the last few seasons. And now his confidence is totally shot it appears.

The bad news is that we couldn't steal a draft pick from the Skins who seem destined to make that pick a high one in each round.

****I NEVER thought the Portis deal was a good move. RB's careers are generally short, Denver's system inflates even the best backs numbers a bit and Wash used bigger backs in their Gibbs heyday.****

I didn't think it was too bad of a move because as Skins fans will tell you....Bailey didn't want to be in Washington anymore. I don't even think giving up a 2nd rounder was such a bad idea.....but the big contract was overboard since the Skins didn't need to sign him to one.

****Brunell was a guy mnay didn't want to see in Dallas on a 2 year deal much less on a long term big bonus contract. Ramsey is the one 1st round draft pick they seem to have from the last few seasons. And now his confidence is totally shot it appears. ****

Brunnell isn't his old self anymore. He'll look good in a few series and give the fans and coaching staff confidence, but I don't see a team going to the playoffs with him as their QB.

And I think we call all blame Parcells for ruining Ramsey's confidence.

Not that I mind that at all.
