One of Loney’s biggest projects is Rico Gathers, the former basketball player from Baylor University that spent his rookie season on last year’s practice squad after the Cowboys selected him in the 6th round of the 2016 Draft. Loney has been with Gathers each step of the way, from pre-draft workouts over a year ago, to work on the scout team in 2016, to this week’s OTAs

Great point in the article about having 5 preseason games with the additional HOF game. That's going to pay us dividends with all of our young guys (Tapper, Rico and Jaylon) plus the rookies. Great year for us to get that!

Jason needs no pre-season snaps, so we'll find out about the kid soon enough.

? you mean Jaylon or is Garrett suiting up?

yes, don't let the league in on Jaylon just yet...let's wait until week #1

On the flip side, NFL season is too long and they will hit a wall by thanksgiving, and won't be effective for playoffs. We need veterans to step up and rookies to spell them more often, i am not counting more than that

Off the subject, but Kristi Scales is doing some good work for that 5pointsblue website. Very little dramatic stuff and fairly fluff free.

Interesting to see that, according to Coach Loney, Rico has trimmed down to 272 lbs. from his formerly reported 280, 290 and whatever. Seems to me that it would be functionally more proportionate to his size and allow him more agility and quickness. Really glad to see these good reports concerning Rico's development. It really appears the TE position is in for a beneficial shot in the arm.

I like Coach Loney's perspective and demeanor here.

Nuts if TE does not work out try him at DE: and then put the 20 lbs back on and try offensive Tackle.

Doubtful as most are rotational players aside from Jaylon.

sure and if that does not work try long snapper. Its one thing to take a guy that has some football experience and have him move positions but taking a young guy after 3-4 years with no experience and say, "hey you are not cutout to be TE lets try DE." He would be starting over from scratch.

I think they should rotate his position per series.
TE
DE
OT
DT

Long Snapper

I'd like to see him longsnap the ball to himself on 70+ yds field goal attempts. He's capable. He is the great Rico Gathers after all....
