ESPN was talking about Jason and Coach Saban having a good relationship I noticed we don't go after Bama players. Is this do to inside information between the two? I was just curios.
In the leaked draft board, they had the 2 DTs from Bama ranked as early 2nd rounders, IIRC.

gosh no...saben knows bama backs don't translate to the NFL:)
Henry has looked good in preseason though and he doesn't have the benefit of running behind our OL. I know it's not the regular season and I would keep Zeke over Henry but he hasn't looked bad.

Tennessee gonna have a great run game this year, most likely second behind us with Murray and Henry

Saban: "Jason, keep your eye on this Prescott kid, he's the real deal."

Jason: "Okay, will do."

So, last season I am watching Bama play Miss. St. and during the game, the camera catches two players on the Miss. St. sideline and the analyst points out those 2 as the only 4 star or above players on the entire team. They grade out recruits with 4 and 5 stars being the blue chippers and they had 2 out of ? By contrast, and they did not point them out, Bama had 2 that were not at least 4 star on their entire team! They had 3 5 star DL on their 3rd team! Think about the disparity of Bama's recruiting.

Their D and LSU's are so packed with 4 and 5 star players that too often a single player gets elevated because of the performance of the units. We did that with Claiborne and Spears. And the same thing can easily happen with FA's. How many FA players actually perform up to the level they had at their previous team? That's why the Dream Team failed and the Skins kept trying to fix their D with too many FA's. Not saying a team can't fix a certain problem like the Pats have done but far too often the individual gets too much credit for the success of the team or unit.

Nice add, coach...

track record my man...until these vaunted bama backs start putting together consecutive productive seasons one season or preseason isn't going to change my opinion that they are overrated and a product of the system...just my opinion though.

Ohio State vs Alabama in the sugar bowl.

I would think Saban had an opinion of Ezekiel Elliott that could provide worthy insight on the 4th overall pick in this years draft.
I like Saban and his prowess at judging college talent. His NFL judgement is something to be worked on. Significantly. Jeeze ill take Garretts judgement over Sabans on NFL players. And thats saying something.

How true but look at the margin of error, Garrett doesn't have much wiggle room and if Saban picks wrong, no harm, there's a 5 star player behind him. Once these college HCs get the recruiting system in place like Saban, Miles and Meyer have, they're hard to beat. All three are conduits to the NFL and that's a great recruiting advantage.

They might not have the total team but I could make a case for all 3 of those HCs having better team defenses than 75% of the NFL.

Each player is different though. You have the right to your opinion but Ingram has produced and Henry looks to do the same

I agree, i am also not as involved with College ball so i dont have a leg to stand on even if you are wrong lol. So ill take your word for it. One thing i have to disagree on though, is Garrett having a margin of error. 3 8-8 seasons? He should have been gone a long time ago. He will literally never be fired.

Yep, Rolando was the "RKG" NOT that Garrett looks for. Sabin likes those kind of
fringe guys more than Garrett.

But wait Garrett said if you have enough core RKG's then you can go after NOT RKG's. LOL

I love hearing Garrett continue to fumble out the excuses as to why Jerry Jones doesnt care about his RKG mantra.

Garrett should get a clue and just stop saying the dumb RKG thing. Does he even know how stupid he looks saying it?

Saban has been a friend of his since Miami and is responsible for us giving McClain a chance. I would be surprised if Saban didn't give him a comparison of Elliott vs Henry. The Boys knew they could wait until the 2nd to get Henry. Pretty sure they talked to him about Claiborne before they pulled the trigger on that one. Their relationship is why we didn't go after Kirby Smart as DC and went after Kiffin instead.

The other connection we have is with Brett Bielema at AR and Yosemite is our center because of that relationship. If you're not familiar with him, he's a linemen guru and his backs always got crazy stats at Wisconsin but it was because of the OL. He also coached JJ Watt.

One thing about Garrett, like him or not, he gets a lot more respect from those inside the football community than from the outside. I've never been much of a Garrett fan but I have noticed those that know the game a lot better than I are fans of his.

They like Garrett the person. He is a real sweet heart. LOL

But you can here the announcers laughing in his face over the years wondering on occasion what the heck he is doing. And Jimmy Johnson certainly threw in a few barbs towards Garrett.

I score with impunity.

Thicker skin maybe needed.

A virtual internet jockey...bragging about scoring, which was referenced in humor; and then tag along a thick skin...you serious?

Following joining in a topic of conversation between Saban and Garrett, with a team directed comment leaving no doubt about an association with dysfunction and drugs...and the Garrett side of being responsible...just quit while one is behind.

Only after there was a comment by you in a similarly condescending manner, did I bother to comment to you. Reassured, you will be just ignored in the future.

Actually, I'm not sure if Rolando was a Garrett choice or a Jerry choice. I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear their
discussions these days!

Don't know if you got to see that bowl game but Elliott accounted for 230 yards and 2 TD's and lead Ohio State to the victory.

Say what you want about Saban's NFL pedigree but he is typically regarded as the best coach in college football and gets a bird eyes view of the talent he puts out on the field and the talent that goes against him. After watching that game, if asked anything about Elliott, I'm certain Saban would have to say they could not stop him and that he was the difference in that championship game.

So to answer the OP's original question which was does Garrett basically get insider info about college players from a source like Saban I would say definitely. As do other coaches. Do they value his insight? Yes they do, even Belichick does.
