Coaching has a bullseye on them now

Well, more specifically, the offensive staff has a bullseye on them now.

Now, more than ever, they are going to have to game plan and scheme an offensive system that can move the ball and score points. Even with the addition of Williams along the OL, in the NFL, you can't just line up and run the ball 40 times a game and expect to win. They are going to have to come up with a passing game that meshes with Prescott and do so with a roster of #2 type and in the case of guys like Gallup, Brown, even Austin, that are unknowns.

Initial expectations around here seem to be that we should be a playoff team in 2018, however, I wonder if as the season progresses and the team scuffles, will people blame all the "new" personnel on offense.

Garrett and company have an opportunity to shut a lot of people up, including myself, if they can turn this team in a playoff team and cobble together a very good offense. Taking what we have on offense and doing that would be a very good accomplishment.

 

What do you think this has all been about? Dez gone, reloading at the WR position, re-enforcements on the O-line and defense. They are game planning. The passing game will most certainly change.

 

Well it appears Linny has a lot of power this offseason judging from the QB coach, down to the cuts, trades, and the way the draft went. It will be interesting to know his plan.

I've said it numerous times on here but I hope they bring in Art Briles again to consult and help build an offense. If Hurns, Gallop and company are running 8 yard timing button hooks again this team is doomed.

 

The thing is the coaching staff now has better offensive players around them for a more modernized scheme but, they have continually shown thru the years that they can't adjust to anything more creative in today's NFL.

I am struggling to find out how they will seeing as to how it isnt their thing. They are old minded men in a young man's coaching world.

I fear even if things are changed, it will be to a base and caught onto as the season goes. If Dallas makes the playoffs creating another scheme could also become another problem.

 

Cowboys have stated they made these moves to improve the team so there are no excuses. Cowboys need to win and compete for a championship. I have supported Garrett and will continue for one simple reason, I don't cheer against the Cowboys. He is the HC and it was not put up for a vote with the fans so of course I want to see him succeed. If in the end he is fired because the team fails, well that is the life of a coach and no one will be able to say he was not given a legit chance.

I think the defensive staff has a bigger bullseye on them. After lobbying for and getting a 1st round LB (and as stacked as you have to be to act like a 43 LB is your last big need, worthy of 1st round resources)? A full season of Lawrence and Irving? And all that pressure riding on building on early promise and turning the secondary pics from last year, Lewis and Awuzie and Woods, into a rock-solid unit? And the pressure riding on developing Taco? After two years of resisting the urge to spend 1st rounders on offense, Jerry probably expects us to have a lights-out defense as a reward for spending those picks on defense.

If the offense underwhelms, the losses of Dez and Witten will be the excuse they trot out, and it’ll be heard and find some traction with the Joneses. If the defense craps out, I think the team won’t even want to hear their excuses.

Will it work?

 

Now that we are changing up our team, does that mean we are also changing our play calling, any different plays? You know how we run the same few plays, same game plan, I'm hoping that changes also.

 

I thought Linehan wanted Moore as his QB coach? And a big fat no to Briles. That’s a PR nightmare hire and we don’t want any of that Baylor crap infesting our team and locker room.

 

That's why they play the games. We need to find out.

And Art installed the Zone read play in TC in an afternoon that made Dak so successful his rookie year. I didn't say bring him on the staff, I said as an outside consultant. The dude can coach offense better than most.

 

In other words, you'll likely have an excuse if the team and this staff fall short again.
