Linehan > Callahan
Marinelli > Kiffin
Garrett 2014 > Garrett 2013

This is a pretty good development. Others posters have pointed out that Linehan has brought creativity to our offense, and that Marinelli is doing a lot with little talent. But we have to give props to Garrett too. I have criticized him in the past, but it all starts with the head coach and I feel like things have changed this year. We are no longer seeing the coaching blunders from last season. The overall coaching structure is working better right now.

In fact, we are seeing mistakes from the opposing coaches for a change. The biggest playcalling mistake this year was Romo's fault, not Linehan's or Garrett's.

My concern with Garrett is that he was a coach in training, but he had nobody to train him. To be the best you normally need to learn from the best. Having Linehan and Marinelli should definitely help him.

Last year I felt Kiffin was done and we made a mistake bringing him here. His last couple of years as def coordinator were historically bad. He lost it, we suffered greatly from it. Promoting Marinelli was the best coaching change we made.

Linehan has really surprised me. Sure, we have a stronger OL, but he also has a good "feel" for the game, which is what you need as playcaller.

Our biggest problem this year is really injuries/health. Romo's health, defensive injuries and the lack of talent in the DL are our biggest obstacles right now.

Play calling sure is.

It's more than the play calling. It is scheme, having players ready, etc.

Adding so many new pieces to a defense, like Melton, Mcclain, Hitchens, etc. and making it work is great coaching.

I think the credit goes to the offensive line. We are able to do a lot of things we havent been able to do in the past because we have the protection and the run blocking. Like many have commented here over the years, it all starts in the trenches. Now if we can start getting quality pass rushers we can really start to make strides. I mean look at how the current team in built, 1st rounders on the oline blocking for a 3rd round runner, with an undrafted qb as a starter throwing two td's to an 3rd round pick. Dez is the only star at a skill position drafted in the first round. To bad it took so long for this organization to realize that having a good oline matters.

Linehan is sure a breath of fresh air but Kiffin IMO; was behind the eight ball still, Marinelli is a better coach today.
Red made mistakes but Jerry was correct in hiring Red.It was difficult for the fan to go through the growing phase with Red.

Just keep Red clapping on the sideline during games and let the coordinators call their games and all will be fine. The less Red does on game day the better.

He's no Bill Belichick, but he's better than last year. I am seeing less coaching blunders from our staff. How many games did we lose the last 2-3 years due to coaching? (icing our kicker, abandoning the run, bad clock management, etc)

He has 3 guys on his staff that were HC in the NFL now so he should have a very large knowledge pool to draw from.

Jerry Jones has been circling the wagons for his staff, since the preparations for Bill Parcells...and I say that it has now paid off in full.

I'm of the belief the team is simply executing. Look at the Aint's yesterday. Dropped passes....failed punts....all things they usually don't do in the past. If the Aint's had executed on the plays they missed out on are we saying Payton's a idiot? Probably not. I just think that's where coaching is. When you're doing well and you have success you're a genius. When you're in the redzone and you throw a fade route on 2nd 1 for a Dez score? You're a genius. When you're 2nd and 1 and throw a fade route to Dez and it fails? You're going to scream we should've ran it. I just think the main thing this team is doing now is executing and playing disciplined football. I don't think these coaches just understand it now. Even Linehan. Lions fans hated Linehan because of his abandoning the run and relying on the pass. So now he understands he should be pass first? He's the passing game coordinator....

If all Garrett's main responsibility throughout his career here in Dallas is say " go for 1, go for 1" after each touchdown and it wins us games and possibly a title, I would be fine with that.

I'm thinking what we have now is a perfect storm. We have an OC that wasn't liked in Detroit because he passed too much. He then was given a opportunity here to prove his haters wrong and by turning this offense into a run dominated offense. We have a failed Detroit Lions coach who went 0-16. Then Dallas needed a coach that knew the 4-3 Tampa defense like the back of his hand. Not only that he was endorsed by Kiffen his old time respected friend to become DC of the Cowboys. I think he feels entitled to make this a top notch defense. Then we have a head coach who has failed to make the playoffs 3 years in a row and has been criticized for being a terrible playcaller. In comes Linehan to save day and take that responsibility away from Garrett. While Marinelli is given full reigns over the entire defense. Garrett wins out because he's well liked by the players and the team and has a relationship with the GM. The GM wants him to succeed and will do anything to also prove his critiques wrong.

Lastly, this team is young and hungry and they seem to really work hard. I think they are all taking to the coaching of both Linehan and Marinelli and are loving to play for a player's coach like Garrett. All of this is coming to together like a perfect storm just like what happened when Jimmy took over for a back in the early 90s.

The further we get Garrett away from game-time/on-field duties, the better. He is skilled at talent evaluation, as in getting skilled personnel here, including players and that's exactly the role we need to keep him in. We finally let the football technicians handle the on the field duties and you have what we see today.

All good points as well. I won't deny any of that either.

When your less involved and have less responsibility, because you were stripped of duties, you make less mistakes. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Marinelli has been churning the roster since he's been here. Praise him for the personnel on defense, despite the injuries, which he's never excused. McLain, Selvie and Moore are just examples.

Don't forget Callahan as well, the guy who molded this offensive line and is the man behind the blocking schemes and running game.

The thing that's making Red's job a little less stressful so far is his talented Oline and his talented QB.

I do give credit so far to Marinelli, Callahan (especially him), & Linehan. But the oline has controlled our team's early success because it has helped with clock management and has given the team's defensive players rest.

Also, the oline has made teams one dimensional in two games that Dallas has played (Titans & Saints) of this early season.
