The songs are similar, but such similarity isn't terribly uncommon. Musicians are exposed to countless songs and influenced by a myriad of other musicians. Songs aren't written in a vacuum, and there's bound to be repetition eventually.

I actually enjoyed the mashup more so than both songs on their own.

I'd never heard that Satch song and I love it.

The 'chorus' of Satch's song is very similar to the overall melody of the Coldplay tune. I wouldn't discount a nod to a great musicians cool melody, I'm sure Satch doesn't mind if it's not a coincidence.
