Why not? If LC gives a quality performance, then Leary will never be active on gamedays again (barring injury). He can't play multiple positions, so Bernie will be active and not Leary. So, I'm counting him out (as long as LC performs well).

Or, LC plays well and they plug Leary back in when he's healthy--which, I think is a likely scenario.

Don't understand the obsession with replacing Leary.

Don't believe it's an obsession for some. I just think people realize that Leary is a restricted free agent next season and will likely get tendered by Dallas in hopes of getting a pick should he sign elsewhere. Leary isn't likely to get a long term deal in Dallas thus fans know he isn't the future. Unfortunately for him but fortunately for Dallas, his backup is cheaper AND happens to be a "1st round talent" thus why folks want to see what he's got.

Just my two pennies RC.

Good to see La'el Collins is making steady progress at LG. Evidently, the FO and staff elected to bring him along slowly, especially in view of the fact that Leary is such a talented and valuable competitor himself. I'm actually expecting Leary to return to duty when he's completely healthy. Next year should present a different scenario, however, with Collins having the benefit of yet another offseason and TC under his belt and Leary becoming a FA.

We can certainly anticipate an intense battle between those two to secure that LG spot in 2015. It's excellent to have that high level of talent available for our interior OL, at least for now. It'd definitely be understandable if Leary elected to leave, being a free agent and all. Admittedly, it would be fairly shocking if he didn't go for the big bucks. If so, some team will be sure to get a good one.

I'd rather see Leary in the lineup this year, but I don't want to see us give him a big extension with a degenerative knee condition. I think that's basically the boat most are in. And when you're in that boat, you want confirmation that the guy you're replacing him with can actually play as soon as you can get it, which is why you see people anxious to get Collins in there.

Leary, though, is a good player and a good Cowboy. It's also natural to want to see him do well, even if he does it someplace else. Unless, of course, he goes somewhere in the division.

Well, I'd rather move Collins to RT to replace the mediocre Doug Free and keep Leary but if it has to be G for Collins, he's a much better talent. It's not even close.

I have an obsession with upgrading the roster wherever and whenever we can.

I'm with you 100% regarding upgrading the roster wherever and whenever Dallas can Risen.

Free has been a liability the 1st two games. Especially against Philly. Not sure if he is rusty due to surgery or if he is still injured or is he in a rapid decline. However, Collins hasn't played RT in his career (I don't believe) as he was a LT at LSU. The learning curve may be too steep or his feet may not be good enough to play on the corner in the NFL. My hope is that Chaz Green is a player and can step up in the offseason to upgrade the RT position. Want the combo of Collins-Fred-Martin on the interior to keep things clean for years to come. Hopefully Dallas doesn't have to displace anyone (Martin or Collins) to make upgrading RT happen.

Yep, the RT position will possibly become one of our focal points next year, especially if Free can't fully recover from his foot problem. Chaz Green has had a questionable history of injury during his college career, though, so perhaps locating and acquiring a competent swing tackle will become one of several of our offseason targets.

I think you play your best 5. To me that is Smith Leary Frederick Martin Collins. I don't believe RT will be a transition he can't make. Actually, I think it's his natural position in the NFL.

I actually feel for his near-future situation.
He is a soldier every team would want and Dallas holds all the cards and a player in the wings that can devalue him in the eyes of the league, monetarily.

Ah well. I still root for my team. I wish the absolute best for him, no matter what.

I hope because I don't want to lose Leary. He's the most underrated player on the team. I also don't want to squander Collins' talents.

That would be ideal, assuming Leary doesn't migrate to another team in 2016. The money he might command might cause the FO to look elsewhere for a LG or OT, tho, depending upon their cap situation at that juncture.

Yeah, I'd say simple cap economics means Leary isn't long for Dallas. Smith already has his 2nd deal. I expect Frederick, Martin and Collins to get theirs as well.

Duh... Thank you for expanding consciousness with something that's been talked about over and over.

He ia restricted in after the 2015 season. If he is playing elsewhere then we will be well compensated. Id consider him a 2nd round trade value

And then, of course, you have the who gives a bleep? What is this emotional connection to players? Why do people care about his future in another NFL city? The best players play. If the Cowboys decide to keep Collins at the expense of Leary (doesn't have to be that way since Collins is the best RT on the roster today) then I'll hope that Leary goes on to complete failure on another team. I hope his career ends in embarrassing fashion. Because it'll mean our front office made the right decision and another team isn't benefiting from one of our castoffs.

It's about the logo and laundry not Ronald Leary or any other player.

I agree with you to an extent. I believe the best 11 guys should play no matter how long they've been in the league. At the same time I'd like to see us keep leary and trade Berny. Leary can learn center, it's not that difficult. To be honest, as a high school offensive line coach I make all my players learn how to snap the football as a "just in case".

Eager to see Collins in there as a starter as well, but please no rotation. If he struggles and gets pulled okay I get that, but I don't wanna see him and Berny or Leary rotating.

Yes. Nate said that was the dumbest thing he's ever seen!
