Ask the experts

QUESTION: How do the Cowboys (who missed the playoffs) and the Bears (average at best the last four years) get so many national TV games? Using that sliding scale, the Colts' OTAs should be on ESPN.
-- from Doug, Indianapolis

ANSWER: It's apparently all about the perceived national appeal of teams. No team has a larger national aura that Dallas. Like it or not. The one I had more of a problem with was the Miami Dolphins getting four national TV games, including two home games on Monday night. They overachieved in 2008 to finish 11-5 and win the AFC East, but were hardly an exciting team. Miami along and the Atlanta Falcons might be two '08 playoff teams who take a step back in '09.

It's not a "perceived national appeal."

It's hard numbers. TV ratings. Money.

What's not to understand about that, Doug?

The higher the TV ratings the more you get to play on TV.

Cowboys = hot chick. Doesn't matter if she can't talk and chew gum at the same time, because guys will still want her. Is it fair? No. But neither is life.

Like oh, I dont know...maybe the week 2 game against Philly that was the highest rated Monday Night game of All time. That might be part of the reason.

It's because people either want to see the Cowboys play because they love them or hate them. Either way, people want to see them. Nobody cares about the Colts. :starspin
