Ask the experts
QUESTION: How do the Cowboys (who missed the playoffs) and the Bears (average at best the last four years) get so many national TV games? Using that sliding scale, the Colts' OTAs should be on ESPN.
-- from Doug, Indianapolis
ANSWER: It's apparently all about the perceived national appeal of teams. No team has a larger national aura that Dallas. Like it or not. The one I had more of a problem with was the Miami Dolphins getting four national TV games, including two home games on Monday night. They overachieved in 2008 to finish 11-5 and win the AFC East, but were hardly an exciting team. Miami along and the Atlanta Falcons might be two '08 playoff teams who take a step back in '09.
