Costa, 27 in July, appeared to be an ascending player in Dallas before falling out of the coaching staff's favor in 2013 as the Cowboys used a first-round pick on Travis Frederick. We wouldn't rule out Costa starting at center for the Colts, or at least giving Khaled Holmes a serious run for his money.
Related: Cowboys

He wasn't an ascending players. He was a guy out genius HC-OC was using, until Callahan probably told us to get rid of the bum as a starter and worked out Frederik. He couldn't stand watching the DC in Commanders constantly sending the blitz up the middle against the Cowboys to sack Romo everytime.

Can you tell us another story, grandpa?

Not that I know of.

I don't typically put people on ignore. I actually like your dedication.

I thought you were upset because I pointed out your blunders regarding Garrett and play action and went on the standard ignore list troll talk.

What about Garrett and play action?

Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else, so many Garrett homers on here... One of them saying Garrett uses play action because he played under Norv, despite us being last or among the last two years plus in a row...

I don't think that was me. You've been hating on Garrett a long time, I imagine it blurs a bit.

As a center, Costa can be effective, meaning an average player. He wasn't going to beat out Frederick here, and he wasn't a better guard than Berny or Leary. Berny proved to be effective when he played Center so Costa wasn't worth keeping here. Better to look for another G to replace him.

I like how media outlets overrate our former players to suit their articles. Hatcher was a 1 year wonder, Ware(who i love as a player) is on the decline, Spencer can't stay healthy and has motivation issues & now Costa was a player on the rise. Smh

Lol. Sorry, but *nobody* on this site *ever* made the case that Phil Costa was going to be a better player than a first round draft pick. The question was whether he could give a team meaningful snaps since we had limited picks and more important holes elsewhere. To which you said he was the worst player you'd ever seen in a Cowboys uniform, or whatever attention-seeking overstatement you assured us was the case.

As to Phil Costa being able to play. I'm not going to agree with you. It'll just be me, the Cowboys who drafted, extended, and tried to renegotiate him to keep him on the roster as a reserve, the Colts, who just signed him to a contract with the possibility to start, the Patriots and the Lions--both of whom were also reportedly interested--on the one side obviously *not* agreeing with you. And you, of course, on your side. Continuing to be 'right' because the consequences of being wrong on this topic just like just about every other argument you've made about our OL the last two years is just too painful to ever actually admit. We're thoroughly convinced by your assessment because you say it with such conviction you can't possibly be wrong.

and as usual you are blind to history. Especially the history of this team; more specifically the inability of this team to develope anyone other then top picks on the O line. A couple of marginal exceptions in Free and possibly leary aside, show me where this team has shown an ability to truly recognize and develope talent there. So therefore your spew about the staff means diddly squat.

Frederick. Smith. Kyle Kozier. Flozell. Maybe Gurode (though I'd say no personally). Probably a few more.

Given Parcells awful track record here, maybe it just isn't as easy to do as some might say?

You also have to wonder why someone would think he has a point when, after telling us how much potential he had, he watched his former team use a 1st round pick on his replacement and cut him.

That's what I do when I see talent in a player. Spend top resources on his replacement and get him off the roster.

Phil Costa can't play. You're either going to agree with me or continue to be wrong. Your choice.

Quote of the year, lol.

"Phil is a young, hard-nosed and physical center who has shown he can play at a winning level in our league," said Colts general manager Ryan Grigson

We had this player on our team and wasted a first round pick on Frederick? This front office man...
