Ya...this kid has something. Great size, speed and seems to have a motor. Between him and Collins...we added some juice to our DL.
I agree Ken he seems like a definite steal but according to some fans here and the local media they're not serious about upgrading the DL though.

The upgrade is going to come from the improvement or health of guys like David Irving, Terrell McClain, Ryan Russell, Chris Whaley and hopefully Randy Gregory.

Collins and Tapper will be on the team but only play in spots, like Gregory and Russell did last year. But overall the unit will be much better than before.

Indeed and add Thornton to the mix as well.

Hopeful. Honestly was the most shocking player to me in the pre-draft process. His film doesn't look like a guy with 34 1/2" arms, 11 1/2" hands and sub-4.6 speed. Thought he and Striker were tweeners without a NFL position but Tapper's super athleticism and the defense he played in gives him a chance to be...untapped potential.

I see what you did there...

Interested to see how much the defense he played in held him back. He was at the Senior Bowl but minor injury kept him out. Here are some bits I found about him in practices...

EDGE Charles Tapper had a strong day overall, showcasing exceptional power in his upper body when moving through the pop-up bags. His hands are deadly when he utilizes them, just has to get precision down. I thought Tapper had an impressive all-around day, and his thick build lends itself to a strong-side 4-3 defensive end who is pretty immovable against the run.

EDGE Charles Tapper got leverage on OG Cody Whitehair and tossed him aside for a “sack”. Whitehair had a good day overall, but got off to a slow start and one coach got in his grill a bit to amp him up. After that he was pretty dominant.

Tapper tried bending the edge and got knocked down by Clark. Went with a bull rush the next rep and ran straight through the Texas Tech offensive tackle. Tapper may be resigned to the power game, but that isn’t always a bad thing. Know what you do well and enhance it.

Charles Tapper- Tapper had a good all-around practice. He is a little light for a 3-4 5 tech, but he could be a solid end in a 4-3 scheme. He showed good pass rush technique and was fairly quick off the ball. He doesn’t have the elite bend, speed or power you typically want in edge players, but Tapper is good enough to carve out a solid role at the next level.

Charles Tapper from Oklahoma showed off solid athleticism. He was able to bend around the edge against Spencer Drango a few times and showed off impressive power on bull rushes.

The Cowboys met with Charles Tapper at the Senior Bowl. At Oklahoma, it was hard to fully evaluate Tapper because of the awkward defensive formation they deploy, but the Cowboys love Tapper's speed and explosiveness, two traits they usually look for in their pass rushers.

He was so poorly coached at OU.., I don't know what they are doing with their D Ends but it's ridiculous.

We may have stole one here. Marinelli can mold this guy.

What on earth is OU trying to accomplish with their D ends?

I agree. OU coaching was not good for this guy. Marinelli will be a huge asset to this kid's development. I see good things in his future here.

When they showed the highlights on TV when we picked him, I started laughing cause he just sorta ran through the line to sack the QB or stuff the runner, like the OL wasn't even there. I said if he can do that in the NFL, this is a great pick.

agreed. Both look to be quick twitch players who have size. Marinelli has to happy with two solid choices and defense and Elliot to keep snaps down for his defense.

When you look at the young guys competing on the DL now, compared to 2013, it really puts things into perspective.

I hate the Sooners with a passion. They are the Washington Commanders of college football for me. With that said, I absolutely love this pick. Is he a polished player, NO. Is he an elite athlete, NO. However, he has a high motor, is a hard worker, shows max effort, and seems to be a heady player. He was grossly misused by Bob Stoopid. I think he has a chance to be a steal from day 1.

BTW, I wish we could have found a way to get a third 4th rounder, or even a top 5th rounder, so we could snag Matt Judon as well.....It would have given us 2 pass rushing DEs and 1 pass rushing DT from the draft.

None of those guys have done anything in the league. McClain is the only one who has actually played some, and he was hurt before he got here a couple of years ago. I hope we go to more of a rotation and we actually see a wave of players. As much as Marinelli talks about this, guys like Nick Hayden played way too many snaps.

I like both of those guys.

Collins has and Tapper both have upside. Love those 2 picks.
