Did anyone else happen to catch this moronic Gibbs decision?
To finish the game in overtime, Gibbs opted to kick a 40-yard field goal on first down rather than attempt to move the ball anymore.

Obviously they made it but can you imagine the backlash that would have occurred if they didn't?
The lack of accountability in Washington has reached monstrous proprotions and, because they made the field goal, this stupid decision won't even be mentioned.

Well... you know what... its SUDDEN DEATH... so... you get close enough and nail it...

I didnt really have a problem with the call.

I was hoping that Suisham was gonna show that he is a REAL Cowboy... it was not to be

I don't know if it is moronic, but yes I would run at least another play or two before trying a kick on 2nd or 3rd down. It was officially listed as a 39 yard kick.

I think because it's SUDDEN DEATH, you get close as possible and nail it.

I heard some guys talking about it on the radio... I don't think it was that dumb of a choice. I didn't see the play so I don't know if they needed to, but maybe run it once or twice to get it in position where the kicker wants to kick it from but really, anything other then that would be risking having a turnover, which would have been worse.

Say Gibbs said, Ok we'll take one shot at the end zone, and Campbell throws an INT... he'd look a lot stupidier then, if the kicker misses a kick then he can't really control that, people would still be bashing him but it wouldn't be quite as bad I think.

I agree. I don't think there is right or wrong with the call by Gibbs. Face it you get a sack and get knocked out of FG range you would be questiones, you fumble or throw an int your going to get questioned. Gibb was confident in Suisham who was already 3 for 3 on the day with one from 44 out.

I think the odds of 2 or 3 run plays are in your favor of gaining at least a small distance. 40 yards is hardly a given and Suisham is hardly an established closer.

I certainly agree that throwing (especially taking a shot at the endzone) would be equally stupid.

His reasoning was pretty sound. He said he's seen too many situations like that where your team gets called for holding, false start, etc and takes you out of field position.

But that also demonstrates very little confidence in his offense to not screw things up.

What I find really funny is when the Stinks kick a field goal, St. Gibbs always ducks his head so he won't have to watch! :laugh1: It's like he's scared or something?

Then when he hears the roar of the crowd, then he picks his skinny head up...!

This game has so passed him by...!!

okay, let's say the holder sneezes when they kicked it and fumbles the snap.

Of course anything can happen.
But football is often a game of odds.
Odds say the closer the field goal, the more likely the kick will be good.
They also say that running the ball results in a positive gain more often than not.

not that bad a call. 40 yards should be a gimme almost. And if something goes wrong, you still have 2nd down and a shot at 2 more plays before u kick again

Im not sure I would happy with a 40 yard FG with Suisham (sp?) as my kicker.

I didn't have a problem with it either. You're in a comfortable spot. Why risk the fumbling of another handoff or two. Kick it and go home.

Yeah, awful call by the Hall of Fame coach. Hate those game winning field goals right down the middle.

Assuming Washington recovers, they have 2 more downs to get that yardage back or just rekick it from further back.

Pretty easy comment to make after the fact.

The call was made before hand...tell me you wouldn't be singing a different tune if Suisham had missed. I doubt we'd be blessed with your sarcastic comments if he had.

...it wasn't the call I would have made, but not unheard of, either.

I guess that's why you're not one of the chosen 32 NFL coaches in the world. Me either, that's why I don't question them...especially one with a yellow jacket.

There's plenty of reasons why I'm not one of those "chosen" 32...but thanks for yet another incredibly lame sarcastic remark. Your wit is truly without parallel.

Your loyalty to your coach is admirable, but at some point you're going to have to let go...he's not doing you any favors.
