Hopefully that will put the rest the small amount of cowboys fans that have been saying we should sign him.

Does this indicate a trade of Cousins is likely?

No, it just means they are moving on from Grossman who is a lock to follow Shanahan eventually.

If they value McCoy as a better option than Cousins, I would be amazed, as well as overcome by a desire to laugh at loud at the Commanders.

All in all, they got their man. A third QB so they do not have to draft one.

Weird time to pick up a QB3, though, just before the draft. This looks to me like the kind of thing you do to at least give you flexibility if you're out a first round pick and think you might have interest in your current backup on draft day. Then you have a starter, a backup with some starting experience, at least, and a slot for a developmental rookie player. A veteran QB3 is going to be there for you if you really want one at the end of May.

If you have no first round choice and do not think you can waste another choice on a viable 3rd QB, it does make sense. They are thinking of their QBs as second string A and second string B from what it looks like because they are not sold Griffin can make it through a whole season. Besides, McCoy is just like the other weak armed veteran system QBs that Gruden had in Cincinnati (like McElroy and Gradkowski).

McCoy is actually a good fit for that scheme. He'd be a QB3.
However, they want a 2nd rounder for Cousins but so far aren't getting any takers. But they may have indication that a draft day trade is still possible if a certain team or two does not get who they want. If you look at McCarron, for example, I'm not sure there's much difference between him and Cousins...and the latter may even be more highly regarded.

McCoy at least gives them some minor insurance in that regard.

That's what I think is likely happening. They've got a team or teams that have expressed interest in Cousins late in the second if and when that second tier of QBs goes in the draft, and the Skins are covering themselves at the backup position because they think it's likely they'll move him. McCoy's not a bad fit for them as a backup, but IMNSHO, he's not a guy you give a QB3 roster spot to. Those spots go to inexpensive players with physical tools and upside who need time to develop. Even then, roster spots are valuable, so you might not be able to commit to a multi-year project when you've got a young starter in place already.

Probably a top 5 QB3 in the league haha. He's a competent backup. Good for him.

He will replace RGIII.

This primadonna crap won't last with Gruden. He will want a system QB.

RGIII is not for me... Says Gruden in his head.

It will be a bold move. But it's a smart one.

Gruden will replace RGIII at some point with a new QB? Or Colt McCoy will replace RGIII? If it is the latter, I would not consider that as either a bold or smart move. McCoy being the starter for any team is not a good decision.

Good luck. So funny how fast people forget how a healthy RG3 shredded Dallas 2 year ago.
