Computer chips in NFL footballs could lead to narrowed uprights

Hacking microcontrollers is not as easy as hacking networks and if they make it a closed system it's not hard to monitor for 3rd party interference. if this really was an issue I would go after timekeeping and replay technology first.

Exactly, By the way, pass completion percentages are getting higher. Maybe they should make a rule that the QB has to pass off his back foot. It seems ridiculous to me that because people are perfecting their craft, you would make a rule to make it more difficult for them. Its like changing the size of the golf hole or making the endzone smaller.

For the last 22 years the difference from the 1st rated kicker to the 32nd rated kicker is 10 percentage points. It has not changed, so why bother making a change? No matter what you do you will probably end up with a 10% difference and therefore have no effect

Instead of narrow goal posts, just get rid of them and put a big circle on a pole, and the kickers have to put the ball thru the circle!

But kidding aside, they want to make kicks more suspenseful. Kickers have gotten so good they dont miss often.
So really a circle would make it harder, high kicks would just go over it ! lol
It would look odd though.

...still trying to figure out why narrowing the goalposts requires a computer chip.

The chip will just allow them to track the balls path in a precise manner, so later they can tell which kicks would not be good if
they moved them inward by 12 inches etc.
With that data, at end of year they can then decide how much they want to move the posts inward.

They could have a laser beam at the goal line, and if the chip contacts that the pylons light up !

It's a business. If you're not constantly trying to improve, you're going backwards.

Also, when you have a bunch of people making these kinds of decisions absent game-experience, be it coaching, front office, playing, etc. -- at presumably any level, including pop warner -- then you're going to get dumb **** like this (from *******es like Blandino).
