Tell Chip Kelly that. This mentality is coaching him out of the NFL....

Really tell that to Kelly and the Bills from 89-92 they were in no huddle 80 percent of the time n often didn't win TOP but went to 4 straight SBs. TOP however is important if your defense is not up to par and you don't put up many points. The league wants chip to go no huddle. That's one reason they brought him in. They wondered why college football was getting better ratings than the nfl. The fans response ? More action. Fans like a fast pace high scoring game.

One of the reasons we've been so successful with our methodical attack is that we've usually overcome negative plays. We've been the best in the NFL on passes with more than 10 yards to go.

>10 yards to go, any down
Yards per play (passes)
Dal 9.1
GB 9.0
Det 9.0
Atl 8.4
Sea 8.3

Strangely enough, running in these situations, we only average 3.6 yards per play, which ranks 25th.

This is not possible because we know our QB is incapable of making big plays :facepalm:

Not to be Debbie Downer amidst this incredible 12-2 season, but there continue to be offensive concerns.

Dallas drove for only one TD against Minnesota, one against New York, and one against Tampa Bay in successive weeks.

This offense has to start finishing drives again to win in the playoffs.

Just make a "Romo should start" thread every week instead of these threads buddy

We can see right through you

How TDs are scored seems meaningless.

Those who fail to study the fails of history are doomed to repeat them. The history of the league the last 15 years or or so show successful playoffs teams average better than 2 passing TDs a game. It is what it is.

I fully understand your concern and I agree but this is who we are with Dak.

It's not the prolific passing attack we might have had with Romo and possible might be the difference in how deep we go into the playoffs but when your 12-2 and having the success he's had we have to accept what we are and how it ends up because without Dak Romo wouldn't have had a season to come back to anyway.

I'm tired of thinking and discussing what we might of been or where we might be going if Romo was still leading this team. I'm no longer going to critic what it might have been with Romo.

It's over. The Romo era is officially over barring an injury these last couple of games. It's time to move on. We will now have to live with the results of the Dak era and grow with it.

I don't believe this is a great 12-2 team either. And I believe the NFC is down and but if we get home field we're going to be a tough out.

Will anyone be scared of us. No. I could see NY going to the Super Bowl , even Green Bay or Seattle making a run and I could still see us winning in our struggling fashion as we've won many of these12 games thus far.

I'm beginning to like how this team finds a way to win. I don't often have confidence and while watching continue to see how we could lose the game up until the last few seconds of the game. But by providing us a season in Romo's absence Dak deserves our full support to accept whatever the results are and he's providing us much hope for the future.

It's disappointing there won't be any fairy tale or Cinderella type ending for Romo. We can all discuss those contributing factors over and over for years to come but it's now Daks time. There's no more hurdles to overcome or test to be met.

This is the Dak era of the Dallas Cowboys. It's time for this chapter of history to be written.

This is fact. Penalties and mistakes are holding this team back.

I keep going back to this, but I think we miss Swaim a lot in the run game and our ability to run 12 personnel

Is Swaim coming back this year?

It's hard to sustain methodical long drives.

I can't complain but if I did I'd wish we took a shot or two more deep.

Dak through a few longer passes that were beauties but we never tried over the top deep even once.
True. They mentioned this in the broadcast. Most defensive coordinators feel that most teams will commit some sort offensive penalty during long drives: holding, false starts, ect

Well, how about our defensive trend the last few weeks?

I could care less whether Dak throws TD's or we pound it in on the ground. I would like to see a more consistently effective offense throughout the game instead of the frequent "start well and then fizzle for a quarter or half" business. We could have blown Tampa Bay out of the stadium if the O didn't sputter in this way...

The playoffs are a different animal all together. It's unlikely we will go too far in the playoffs averaging 1.4 passing TDs a game. We had zero last night but this has been a problem all year. If the pass rush continues to improve maybe but unlikely. We need to get that passing TD ratio up.

So you'd be happier if instead of running that QB draw in Dak threw a back shoulder fade to Dez?

Yes eventually Dak n Dez will need to improve their "chemistry" lol. eventually you have to be able to consistently throw for TDs in this league. Dak could of had one last night but he threw it too low and the defender batted it away. He needs to learn to throw it high n let Dez go get it.

I did mention that throw in another thread. Not only was it low, it needs to be back toward the goal line away from the defender. What's odd is that Dak threw a few beautiful back shoulders to Dez in preseason

Even the announcers last night commented on how penalties have really hurt the Cowboys the past few weeks. We definitely need to clean that up for the playoffs.

No matter how much you clean it up the officials can call a penalty on every play and point to the film showing you deserved it, the problem lies in how equally they dish out those penalties... and also the fact that teams that rely on long drives to protect their defense are more likely to accumulate those flags.

You make some valid points. Relying on long drives is a double-edged sword. It's great to control the clock and keep the defense rested and off the field, but the more plays you run the more offensive penalties you may get flagged for. It's still probably the best approach though, as demonstrated by the Cowboys' record.
