Couchscouts offseason notes: Pre-draft version

Sorry to say I disagree Ratliff is what is wrong with the player evaluation in regards to size. The guy is too small and doesnt hold up over a year that is why the run defense on this team went into the hole late last year.

If our defense had 11 starters who played and practiced like Jay Ratliff, we'd have the NFL's best defense every single year.

You are out of your mind if you think Ratliff is too small. Our coaches can hardly bring themselves to take him off the field to give him rest because his motor is just non stop.

...This list is in no particular order, it's just what I would personally like to see out of this draft.

1. Potential long term replacement for Spencer
2. Interior pass rusher
3. At least 2 DB's, one of which must be a CB.
4. A return specialist.
5. A potential starting C
6. An ILB who can be a coverage specialist/special teams guy/depth
7. A TE who can threaten the seam.

I don't see OT on this list anywhere. Is the organization confident to go with only 3 OTs like last year (Smith, free, and Parnell)? That was quite a gamble. Or did the cowboys add another OT in FA which I overlooked. I know the Cowboys added two new guards in FA.

That gamble still got them the 14th ranked offensive line in the league. I'm not saying that is great but it is certainly middle of the road. It needs to improve for sure but not near as much as people are making it out to be.

The gamble I was referring to was having only 3 OTs on the roster. Luckily, the Cowboys made it through the 2011 season with no significant time missed from both Smith and Free. And Parnell was/still is an unknown. I would think it is rare for a team to go with just 3 OTs. An injury to Free or Smith would have major ramifications.

They are pretty high on Parnell which is the same story for at least two seasons. Wouldn't hurt my feelings to draft another OT but I don't expect them to unless someone falls in their lap.

You go out in the field, and draw a big circle. Then everyone puts their possum in the middle and the first to catch him coming out of the circle, wins!

But this team gets better after the draft...and has more depth to last out games with.

I wanna start out by telling you guys what a superhero Sdogo is.

I agree! What a resource he is.

Tony Romo -

Wow, there have been a lot of threads regarding our QB the last few weeks, and they all boil down to the same few knuckleheads trying to tell us how terrible he is. I've told you all before, and I'm gonna keep repeating it. These people who think Romo is not elite do not know what they are talking about. Period, end of story. I know an NFL GM who has more than one Super Bowl ring on his hand, and gets to watch a future Hall of Fame QB play every Sunday who uses the Romo question to weed out the people who don't know football. He flat out told me when he meets a fan who recognizes him, and starts up a football conversation, he'll immediately ask what they think of Romo. If they say anything but how incredible he is, he automatically knows they don't know what they're talking about. Not to mention the well over 50 scouts I've met that all say Romo is elite. Those few on this board who will go to the ends of the Earth to tell us how terrible Romo is...they don't have one freaking clue about the sport of football. Not one. Not only that, but they seem to revel in that fact. I say we let them revel, no point in arguing with people who don't know what they are talking about in the first place, and don't have any interest in seeing the truth.
Most of us already know this, but thanks for the perspective you gave from other pro scouts and the NFL GM.

That's part of the problem. He won't last long at that rate. H e needs help to get the doubles off of him.

- Also heard just last week that a scenario involving a trade UP for Claiborne was in play.

Whoever told you this needs to be marked RELIABLE!!! Good info!

Unreal tip that I wish I had paid a lot more attention to.

i remember reading it also, but it had suggested a move to #3 from Minnesota, and i just couldnt imagine we would move up that far.
