That HOF coach down there in New England never "out coached" Coughlin when all the chips were on the line.

Belichick has been "out coaching" everyone else though for the last decade and a half.

Coughlin must be pretty darn good.

Or really lucky like his QB . . . . . .

I actually like Coughlin. I also think he took a lot of bad PR because their GM can't seem to evaluate talent and get him any players.

Keep the guy who can't draft but get rid of the guy who got you 2 rings:huh:

While it is possible NY would want Payton, I can't imagine Payton going there. He still lives in Dallas and he has job security in New Orleans which an easy drive/flight away. If New York had a young up-and-coming quarterback, it might be different.

I really hope ur right...

but Coughlin is leaving
NY is high profile city and a good next step for him
he coached there and would probably love to go back after being fired from them- he was in line for the job then
They have the money
NY would love to keep him from going to Dallas but instead have him coach against us twice a year
Payton is the hot name for available coaches
Payton has recently said he is open to listening to offers

I would hate to see him back in NY...I hope you're right

Reese can hit pretty big on players, but it seems to be all or nothing.

Beckham and JPP come to mind as big hits. But the problem the Giants have is that their big hits fade rather quickly, and they re-sign the least homegrown players in the league.

Sean Payton with Beckham and Eli..

Its certainly a good move for him.

NO has to rebuild and Brees has to be replaced in the very near future.

NO is going to need Brees to take a paycut in the next couple of seasons.

This means rebuilding and Sean would be better off in NY where he is not going to have to do as much to win.

He has accomplished as much as he is going to in NO.

I see it.

With the Giants and Eagles both without head coaches, Garrett still ranks as the third or fourth best NFC East coach.

Oh dear.

Coughlin was a great coach but it's definitely time for him to retire. He turns 70 this year and the Giants need a new voice in the locker room.

Crazy how the two most accomplished coaches in the division got ran off this year.

he coached there and would probably love to go back after being fired from them

That's a big assumption especially after what happened to him last time. Not many coaches ever "love" to go back to a team that fired them once unless they have few options or the team ownership changed since they were there.
he was in line for the job then

No, he wasn't. I was probably the only person around who said he was going to be a great head coach back then. Giants fans didn't like his playcalling and the Giants even took playcalling away from him. So not only did he get fired, he got Callahan'ed.
They have the money

Every team has the money.
NY would love to keep him from going to Dallas but instead have him coach against us twice a year

Teams don't hire head coaches to keep them away from other teams, even rivals. Any team that uses that as their hiring criteria is run by idiots.
Payton is the hot name for available coaches

He is not "available" at this point as his contract runs through 2017. He only becomes available 1) if the ownership of the Saints changes hands as his contract lets him leave in that situation or 2) the Saints let him out of his contract. While rumors are that the Saints would let him out of his contract if he requests it, it is not set in stone and the Saints would be foolish to not require some sort of draft pick compensation from a team that hires him since they still have him under contract.
Payton has recently said he is open to listening to offers

What coach wouldn't say that?
I would hate to see him back in NY

I would too, and given how it seems like every former coach or player we have that's any good winds up with NFC East teams, I won't be surprised.

The sad thing is, Payton would take the Cowboys job over any out there. It just won't be available.

If Payton was smart, he would stay with the Saints one more year and hope the Cowboys do poorly next year. Then he would have a great chance at getting the job he really wants.

Coughlin's a hell of a coach. Glad he's going.

Hi idgit

Glad he is leaving on his own. I would have hated if he was fired outright. I am
indebted to coach Coughlin and I wish him well.

One thing I want to point out is the reapect he is seeing from opposing fans. To me, that is his biggest achievement. It will be a sad day for me not seeing him on the sideline opening day.

Goodbye coach, my coach.
