Is this really a done deal? I can't imagine Coughlin not being the HC for the giants.

Unfortunately, no playoffs in the past 5 years. :(

If a coach wins two Super Bowl with a team, I think it buys them a lifetime appointment with that team. At least it should. I know it didn't in Landry or Johnson's case.

I don't think one can look at the Giants not making the playoffs and say Coughlin is the reason. They could've had one of the better records in the league this year had things broke differently in their multiple swing games. They had a hefty dose of awful luck, much like Dallas, this year. The NFC East isn't nearly as bad as the narrative would suggest.

Lucky? With Eli as his QB he beat Belichick twice o0ut of 2 SB contests against one another.

That's fact. Not opinion.

So you're saying Coughlin coached them up and was saving this play for the opportune time?

Good Coach. Will be missed. But I think he's making the right decision. Retiring financially secure and able enough to enjoy his retirement.

If Coughlin does step down, I wonder if Adam Gase will be the front runner to replace him. Gase does have a connection to Peyton and I'm sure Saban will highly recommend him.

I'd rather not see Gase coach the Gmen or any other team in our division for that matter.

Teams don't hire head coaches to keep them away from other teams, even rivals. Any team that uses that as their hiring criteria is run by idiots.

so, using that criteria, you say that here is a CHANCE that we could hire Payton away from Philly and NY?

also, please, for the love of God, please leave Brian Kelly in South Bend...I have nothing (Dallas, Phillies, 76ers fan)...let me have Kelly

All of these teams making moves to better themselves is just a small stab with a rusty knife everytime to know that were stuck with the clapper

Especially knowing that the clapper is the most deserving of getting canned

He is..

Imagine if the clapper had Coughlins resume..

Hope he doesn't get replaced by someone younger and more talented. That would be bad for the Cowboys.

Will miss his red face. He performed a miracle making it possible for Eli to be elected to the Hall of fame.

Eli isn't going to the Hall of Fame... unless NYG get a lot better again before he retires.

But Coughlin did a tremendous job with that team.
He was able to balance insane push at times when it mattered with hands off at others with they werent good enough.

While it is possible NY would want Payton, I can't imagine Payton going there. He still lives in Dallas and he has job security in New Orleans which an easy drive/flight away. If New York had a young up-and-coming quarterback, it might be different.

Can also be pretty sure Payton wouldn't want to deal with NY media. Not at all his style.

This is so Giants.

Urge him to "resign" or "retire" so it looks like he's volunteering to ride off into the sunset rather than them kicking a 2-time SB winner to the curb.

Anything to avoid even a shred of bad PR.

Da Classless Giants.

Damn good football coach and a good man. I think this was a mistake. Glad he's gone for our sake.
