Interesting. I'm curious if he will be elected to the HOF, as a two-time winning SB Head Coach he has a strong shot. Also interesting to see if he looks for another position of if he calls it a career.

Absolutely, he will. Don't forget what he did with the expansion Jaguars, not to mention Boston College.

That HOF coach down there in New England never "out coached" Coughlin when all the chips were on the line.

Belichick has been "out coaching" everyone else though for the last decade and a half.

Coughlin must be pretty darn good.

Is it possible that Coughlin had the hoodies number because they come from the same coaching tree.

Eli isn't going to the Hall of Fame... unless NYG get a lot better again before he retires.

But Coughlin did a tremendous job with that team.
He was able to balance insane push at times when it mattered with hands off at others with they werent good enough.

You make a good point it probably is not right to give total credit to Coughlin for Eli going to the Hall. That should go the the NE Patriots and Bill Belichick, thanks Bill for that vomit taste when I read Eli and Hall of Fame in the same sentence.
This is a skewed age for NFL QB's, relaxed rules that have opened up offenses, and almost any quarterback with a decent arm(Cutler excluded) can now throw for more than 4,900 yards. This has messed with the stats, but the reality remains that these QB's are going to Hall of Fame when they hang their cleats up: Rodgers, Brady, Peyton, Brees, Roethlisberger and Eli Manning.
Eli is never mentioned among the NFL premier QBs, which makes total sense because he’s not elite as all Cowboy fans will lay testament. Are Big Ben and Eli the equals of the other four mentioned? No way but all six of them will be heading to Canton. Rodgers, Brady, Peyton and Brees because they’re superior passers who won titles. Big Ben and Eli because they’re winners. Thanks again Bill Belichick/NE Patriots.
I need to go rinse my mouth.

So you're saying Coughlin coached them up and was saving this play for the opportune time?

You want to win games, ultimately win a Superbowl?

You have to make plays and the team that makes those plays wins those games.

Coaches coach to keep players in the mindset throughout the game to make plays and win the game.

Coaches coach and players play to make plays.

You want to argue that then argue that.

Pats had to make a big play on the last play to win it all last year. Guess they just keep winning SB's because Belichick is lucky enough to have his players make plays.

Those games weren't just won on catches, they were also won on getting to Brady and his receivers not making plays because of their timing offense being off.

Very possible. Absolutely!

Coughlin's teams also had to beat the NFC teams to get to the hoodie too though.

So he had McCarthy's number and Harbaugh's number those years too.

2 of the other better coaches in the league in the last while.

The guy is a proven coach and even Parcell's, who is the start of that coaching tree said Coughlin was the best coach he ever has under him.

The guy took an expansion team to the playoffs 3 times in their first 4 seasons and got them to the AFC championship, which they lost by the 4th season.

The guy has a hell of a resume and history of winning as a head coach in both cities he's been the head coach.

He also was a key coach in Parcell's time with the Giants.

The guy is a HOF coach and a really good one.

Not trying to be a jerk but if hes so good and everyone knows his credentials and accolades then why is he being forced to retire? Could it be that hes getting too old or lost the team or has the gAme passed him by like it did for joe gibbs and landry

Well, I doubt if the Giants will find another coach as good as Tom Coughlin, so this could be good news for the Cowboys.

Ummm they want Sean. P, more terrifying.

Eli Manning is not getting in the Hall of Fame.
It's a cool story to discuss on the East Coast but he simply isn't getting in.

His career passer rating is 83.5.
He has made only 3 Pro Bowls.
The Two SB MVPs is his best case but the rest really isn't close.
Some of his stats will be fine for totals but those totals likely won't be fine 4 years later when he becomes eligible.

He's never been elite or surpassed his peers.

If he has an NFL MVP type seaosn and wins another SB he'd be a shoo-in but he hasn't even been a playoff regular.
He has definitely cashed in his chances when he got there but it's not enough.

No one is trying to pout Dilfer or mnay other SB winning QBS in the HoF and Elisha Manning really doesn't have much more of a case than those guys.

I agree with all your points nevertheless he will make it first ballot. Blame the Patriots for the two SB MVP awards every player that has gotten two is in the HOF first ballot. Yes a little wine does help with that feeling in your throat.

Not even Favre made first ballot. Neither did Kurt Warner.

Eli isn't eligible until no sooner than 2020 and those SB victories will be a mere gleam in someone's eye by then.
He isn't getting on on this current body of work I assure you.

It will help that he's a QB and it will help that he won two SB MVP's but he literally has zero other strong points to raise.

Warren Moon and Troy Aikman are the only two QBs in who played into 2000 that are in YET.

Eli will be behind 4-5 QBs of this era at the minimum. Rodgers, Brees, and of course his brother and Brady.
Brady and Peyton are only guaranteed 1st ballot guys tho Rodgers could ascend to that.
Big Ben is questionable but has a much stronger argument than Eli. Much more of the modern, rushing yardage and toughness QB.
Ben has won 67% of his games. Eli is well down the list at only 54%. Romo FWIW is 60%.
Brady is insane at over 75%. Peyton is 68%, Rodgers 67%.
Eli is by far lowest of these guys. Brees who had some dogs of teams is still at 57%.

We only disagree on his getting in. We are totally in tune with his stats. There is a east coast white QB bias that is in his favor whether we like it or not.
To be clear IMO he is the third best QB in the NFC east.

Didn't read all the posts in this thread and unsure if mentioned but it is crazy to think that Coach Garrett will be the senior statesmen in the division next season.

Much respect for Coach Coughlin...he's had a fantastic career. Kudos and enjoy retirement Coach.

Bro, Eli is not making it into the HOF. I don't know where in the world you are getting that idea from.

I highly doubt they get Payton.

I think they like the offensive direction with McAdoo. Manning has had a pretty impressive season regardless.

Why upset that?

I think they go for someone else, who would be okay to keep the offense intact.

You dont think the Giants were lucky with the Tyree helmet catch?

Coughlin has been a terrific coach and ambassador for football. His charitable endeavors are also something to respect.

I think he's choosing to resign to remove any decision to be made by Mara and Tisch. It allows him to go out on his own terms, without drawing attention to himself, which is his style.

As long as the Giants keep Jerry Reese in place, this will be good news for the Cowboys.

Can you imagine Eli on this team playing for Garrett instead of Romo. He would have been booed out of Dallas.
