Could Chaz Green possibly be worse than Doug Free at RT, at this point?

Fair point and I won't argue because I don't know what his experience level on that side is. I just assumed that he may be able to handle the duties because he's our swing tackle (I assumed that meant that he could play both sides. Though I could definitely be wrong about that)

I was mixed up on Green. He primarily played right tackle in college, so most of his experience is there.

He was learning left tackle and played there primarily in the preseason because he had to step in for Smith.

Question is what happens if Green gets hurt and we would need Free to backup the LT spot...
Whereas a number of emergency options are available for RT like Martin and Collins...

You can't play the game scared like that. Injuries will happen and you deal with them as they come. You put your team in the best position to win with the healthy guys that you DO have.

FWIW, neither Martin or Collins are Ts at the pro level. One doesn't have the arm length or foot speed and the other doesn't have the discipline to play with balance.

Could Chaz Green possibly be worse than Doug Free at RT, at this point? I like Free and I think he's unfairly been the whipping boy of fans in the past but man, that was UGLY this weekend. It's not going t get any easier against the likes of Washington, Minny, Seattle. That was just bad, bad, bad.

In my opinion the Cowboys have no chance at the Super Bowl. So in saying that I think playing Green is a must. Let the guy get experience this year to figure out if we have our future RT. This is the same with Zeke. He must be the work horse back to figure out what we got in him. Same with Jones, Irving, etc.

I'm not sure he's ready for right tackle. Dallas practiced and played him primarily at left tackle during the preseason. I think it might take him a while to get his footwork right for right tackle. It appeared to me that the focus this year was just to get him acclimated at the position he knows to see if he is capable of stepping in or if the team needed to bring in a veteran.

I'm not sure at this point in his development if he would go in at right tackle if Free was injured. I suspect we'd try him there, but with the possibility of having to move Smith to to the right side in mind.

Again, the only reason I think that is that we haven't really played Green on the right, although I'm sure he's been practicing there since camp ended and Dallas was certain he would be the backup tackle.
You do realize they played him at LT to see if he could handle that side in the swing tackle role? He performed quite admiralty on that side-his play declined once 2nd/3rd sting OL were installed. Go back watch film of his reps with 71 70 & 72 playing.....it's quite impressive especially in pass protection. He can handle RT with ease, Free is a pet cat on the staff-he's not getting replaced until he can't walk

I won't say we have NO chance at a Super Bowl, but yeah, I'm all for getting the kid some experience. Like I said, it can't be worse than Free at this point.

My only concern with Green is his conditioning and its a big one. He gets tired right now and gets very sloppy. A well conditioned Green is a much OT then Free right now IMO. He looked very good with the first team in Preseason, but as games wore on he got tired and very sloppy
Rotate Green and Free per series. They did it before with Free/Parnell.

It looks like Free's oft injured foot is playing up again. I may be in the Minority, but I think Green IS or RT next year. Remember, Sunday was his first NFL game ! Due to his back injury last year. I think we have a few ageing vets. Who are entering the twilight of their careers. Free is one of them, and unfortunately Witten looks like he is coming to that conclusion as well. He can still get open and catch the ball, but man, how many times did he just get his legs taken out cause he cant avoid anyone !
But I digress, Chaz, will I hope rotate both left and right this year - with Smith having the stinger and Free looks like his foot. He will be our primary RT next year ....

we do need to keep this in perspective. Free is not facing many JPP defensive ends on his side. Its ridiculous that NY is loaded that much that they can play him over there.

That's fair enough but he seemed to handle Tyron's snaps pretty decent when he sat at the tougher LT position. The only way this kid is going to get better is to play. I can't see the drop off between Free and Green, at this point being THAT significant. Maybe I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first or last time).

That's fair enough, Wood. But I know one thing, if I'm an opposing DC, I already know Tyron is going to dominate, so I send my best pass rusher right at Free and count my victories all day long. Tyron shuts down you best pass rusher. Why bother to waste him there? Send him over to Free's side and collect sacks like a squirrel collects nuts.

Free seems to respond to heavy criticism. Lets see what happens. I think the OL gets their act together soon.

I sure hope so, bro. He's cost us one QB, so far. I 'd hate to see him have an "off" day.

I thought about that earlier. It wouldn't be a bad idea IMO.

I know Free is the "leader" of the OL by virtue of his tenure... but if Green is better when rotating in with Free, then nobody can complain and the rest of the OL will see the reason for replacing Doug if Green takes his job.

JMO, of course.

For sure.

And if DAK gets kayo from a pass rush he doesn''t defend..

he's gone.

He is on very thin ice.

Free has been inconsistent before and may be playing through an injury, I've been one of his biggest critics but I would give him more time.

Also I think Green is almost a lock to be the RT next year but I don't think he is ready to start just yet.

I've always liked the idea of moving Collins to RT but he was so inconsistent against the Giants I'm not as sold on the idea as I was before.

Bottom line, I would give Free a couple of more games before making any moves.
