Even if Eberflus were to entertain the idea of being demoted to linebacker coach, who would make the decision? Would it be Schotty or Jerry? If it's the former, then he should be allowed to pick the successor at DC, who in turn can bring his own assistants with him. That would be a step in the right direction, organizationally speaking. If, however, the decision is left to Jerry, and he decides to force the new DC to keep Eberflus on his staff as LB coach, then once again we would be handcuffing the next defensive coordinator with a position coach that may or may not be compatible with the type of defensive scheme he wants to execute.
