Could it be the reason BP hasn't named an OC is

because he is hoping to poach one of the assistants off either Seattle's or Pitt's roster?

Also, I remember that before the Seattle game BP mentioned that he really liked their team (when asked by one of the local reporters on the upcoming match-up) and the way it was built.

I just figured that maybe this was the reason BP has been waiting to name his offensive co-ordinator . . . . just keeping his options open.

good point, it seemed like he really loved the coaching on that team, not sure if that has any bearing on hiring though.

Probably far fetched, but what about Zorn, the QB coach and ex-QB of Seattle?

He's done a great job with Hasselback. Maybe he could develop Romo/Henson, or whoever? In a way, he would be sort of similar to Payton (in his reputation for developing QBs).

I kind of doubt Zorn would leave. He's kind of a big deal in Seattle.

Sure something funny going on. We obviously had no interest in Palmer (nor did Jets or NO). Either Parcells simply in no rush to name his 2 new coaches or he has plans elsewhere--Seahawks or Steelers?? I'd sure like to see us add a defensive coach from the Steelers who can help development of our 3-4 defense. Doubt their QB coach will come here, but it possible Parcells looking at another offensive position coach. Any chance we can add their OL coach and move Sparano elsewhere??

I'd lay wages he is fine being his own OC for this year which could also be his last.

It also may be a sign he is telling Zimmer to come back with more autonomy over the defense and less 2nd guessing.

If he does return after this year he would be in position to grab an OC with Head Coaching aspirations who Jerry would overpay as a coach in waiting.

Considering he has never done this in his entire career I dont see why you would say that.

Wasn't Zorn actually one of a few Cowboys that was traded to Seattle way back when ? I remember when he was young, watching a Cowbous Seattle game and they mentioned Zorn was drafted by the Cowboys.

He's been his own OC for many years in fact if not name including with Weis at first. It takes time to win BPs trust obviously. If he doesn't plan to be here long enough for a guy to win his trust why bother naming a token OC? He already has Sparano as his offensive asst.

He does give leeway to coaches once he trusts them and he may now trust Zimmer. He has spoken highly of him many times.

Thats to say not sure which part you think hasn't occured but really they are both fairly common for BP.

Yes Zorn was drafted by the Cowboys, but never played. There were quite a few ex-Cowboys, which ended up playing for Seattle in their early years. Can't recall all the names, but it seemed over the first several years, half the team were in someway affiliated with Dallas at some point.

When Dallas treaded up to get Tony Dorsett they sent a bunch of draft picks to Seattle for that 2nd pick in the first round(Ricky Bell-USC-went first overall to Tampa Bay).
Not sure if Zorn was one of those picks.
If so, he was the best player that they got our of that deal.
That was a great deal for us.

I had to look this up but...

Zorn was a rookie free agent out of some real small California school. He beat out 2 guys they drafted in 1976 but both were round 4 or later guys.

He didn't have anything to do with Dallas that I can recall or find.

I'd say he brings someone in to do the OC duties during the week. Being the play caller is not the same as being the OC -- unless they are one in the same. It is hard for a HC with as much as they have to do, to do the OC job during the practice week.

If Parcells is waiting on someone from one of the SB teams, I'd say it would be Pitt. Seattle is a west coast offense... which is a far cry from what we run, so I just don't see one of their offensive assistants coming to Dallas.

Pitt, on the other hand, has an offense that much more parallells what we run, so you might be on to something there.

I could be wrong though.

Exactly... Parcells has expressed public disdain for the WCO. I can't see him ever bringing in an OC from that system.

Frankly, I think JT is right: Sparano will be given some title less than OC, and we won't even have an OC by name. Even Payton was the "passing game coordinator".

Not likely. I think he is waiting until early February to announce all of the changes to his staff. Some, as yet unspecified, coaches have contracts expiring at the January and BP probably is waiting to make one and only one
announcement of the new staff
