Yes. According to this article, Melvin Ingram and Michael Crabtree both tore their ACLs at the same time last year and returned in December to help their teams.

Yes, he could return just in time to get hurt again. It's actually a positive that he got hurt before training camp so they can focus on another player rather than Lee going down in the first couple weeks of the season.

If we're talking about the draft by the time December comes around, that means it's probably a 5 win season or so, no way Garrett survives that, at least I hope not.
Then again, you are right, Jerry could sing him to a 3 year extension after that and I wouldn't be schoked.
