I've often wondered the same thing. He certainly doesn't look the part, he's seems to wrong more often than not on anything that is being regurgatated, and he's really annoying.

He either has some dirt on the CEO or has some kind of vested ownership.

I'm in my car pretty frequently when John Clayton comes on the radio on the Sports Bash with Eric Casillias. He regurgitates the injury reports that any yahoo can look up at NFL.com, then gives a few wishy-washy, 'we'll just have to wait and see' type opinions. He's a bright guy, and I appreciate the info, but you could get the same patter from the traffic reporter, if they've got the printouts of the injury reports up in the helicopter.

Mark me down as another who doesn't get it.
