Disclaimer: This is not a rumor or confirmation, just purely for discussion purposes.
During last year’s draft, Jerry was willing to trade TE Jason Witten in a package deal to move up and draft Adrian Peterson. It is not out of the realm of imagination that he may be persuaded to dangle Witten in front of another GM’s eye again.
Examine the possibilities: Detroit doesn’t need anymore WR’s, but they sure could use a TE of Witten’s caliber to work the middle of the field and free up the WR’s. Jerry could do an even swap for Roy Williams and wouldn’t have to give up any draft picks.
Cincinnati could definitely use a Jason Witten if disgruntled Chad Johnson wants out. It would add a new dimension to the Bengals offense and give Palmer another weapon and safety net to pass to.
In both Detroit and Cincinnati’s case, they would still get a probowl caliber player and another dangerous option in the passing game. Dallas certainly has the capability of making this happen. Fasano is no Witten but he is good enough to start and get the job done with Curtis as the #2 TE. The Cowboys also have TE Martellus Bennett of Texas A&M schedule for a visit to Valley Ranch. He is currently projected as a first day pick.
In another scenario, I could envision Jerry trading up with either Miami or Oakland with a package deal including Witten, a first round pick, and maybe another pick from next years draft to move up and Draft McFadden. Parcells would LOVE Witten in Miami and Oakland can use all the help they can get.
I don’t think either one trade will happen, but I do think Jerry would pull the trigger if he gets the opportunity.
