Donovan McNabb sent rookie wide receiver DeSean Jackson a loud and clear message Sunday. Jackson, who caught 22 passes in the Eagles' first four games, had one reception for 8 yards against the Commanders. He ran a sloppy slant route in the second quarter that resulted in a near-interception by Carlos Rogers and never saw the ball again. Jackson was on the field for 18 of the Eagles' next 24 snaps. McNabb threw 16 more passes in the game. None were in Jackson's direction.

That's because Jackson is an idiot who won't spend alot of time in this league. Good thing the Eagles took him.

You mean that same Jackson that scored a TD on punt return...

Maybe there is a correlation between the Eagles offense stalling and Donovan not trying to get Jackson the ball.. The Eagles pretty much stalled in the second quarter, didn't they?

He reminds me of a certain former big play guy we had as a rookie:

Derek Ross, CB from the Ohio State University, was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 3rd round of the 2002 NFL Draft. Derek turned in one of the finest Rookie seasons for a defensive back in some time for the Cowboys. He led the team with 5 interceptions as a rookie, playing in only 14 games and starting 9. Derek's attitude got him in trouble early with new head coach Bill Parcells in 2003 and after just 8 games into the 2003 season, Derek was cut. He signed with the Falcons and finished the 2003 season in Atlanta. Derek signed with the Minnesota Vikings in the 2004 off-season and played in 9 games for the Vikings in 2004. Derek was never able to recreate the flair he had as a rookie. In 3 seasons, Derek played in only 33 games and intercepted 6 passes. Derek was arrested on drug charges in the Spring of 2006 and sentenced to 4 years in prison.

DeSean will have to make a decision soon. If he wants to be a star he is definitely going to need to grow up and cut out the antics. He is capable of making that decision and he is defintely capable of being a game-changing offensive weapon in this league.

Right now (5 games in) who would you rather have? Mike Jenkins or DeSean Jackson? I like Jenkins and hope he will be a quality corner for a decade. I just think DeSEan is going to be a superstar, assuming he wakes up.

Heh-the same thing also happened when they passed over Witten to get LJ Smith. The same thing also happened when they passed over MB3 to get Ryan "fumbalitis" Moats in the 4th round. And oh-remember how much flack Parcells got for passing over Shawn Andrews and Winston Justice? The former is starting to become a head-case for them.

What is it about this Eagles team being the "gold standard" in terms of drafting talent?:laugh1:

A lot of the Eagles reputation for being a great drafting team stems from the early part of the decade.

2000

Corey Simon - he flamed out, but initially he was a very good player.

Bobbie Williams - not a superstar, but he's still starting in the NFL. How many starting lineman have the Cowboys drafted since 2000?

2001

Correll Buckhalter - Oft injured, but has contributed to the Eagles for years.

Derek Burgess - A Pro Bowler player.

AJ Feeley - Not the worst backup QB you can find.

2002 (Probably their best class of the decade)

Lito Sheppard
Michael Lewis
Sheldon Brown
Brian Westbrook
Raheem Brock

With the exception of Brock, who caught with other teams, they all became big contributors for the Eagles.

After 2002, the quality of their drafts drops dramatically, but it seems as if they get at least a quality contributor per draft still.

They ran out of money for their rookies in 2002, and just cut Brock since they couldn't even afford his low end rookie salary. He got picked up by the Colts and is doubtless a much happier man because of it.

Not dissing or promoting Jackson either way...but that was one bogus block in the back call on #50 of the Commanders.
