heard this song on a country station today and while at first i was like "not your normal country" but i heard "country" in the distance of the song itself and honestly fell in love with it and made it a point to find it when i got into work. the discussions are kinda entertaining and i already dove in to someone who commented against it being played on country.

anyway - the video.

Country music has been on a steady decline since Brooks and Twain entered the picture. This song confirms it has hit rock bottom.

heh, and SHAKE IT OFF continues to push pop into greater heights. :)

i'm not so concerned about the classification of music in as much as simply where to find something i didn't hear a freaking hour ago. if you're into traditional country i can see your point. but then, what is rock?

def leppard?
uriah heap?
hootie and the blowfish?
lynard skynard
and hey - jimi.

are they all the same "rock"? to paint country with a single brush i don't think does it justice. if there are different styles of rock there should be for country also, i would think. hell, i'd also lead the charge to make fun of country for most singers not even being able to write their own songs. at least this guy can write and has done so for many artists, one of whom has been mentioned in a negative light, so...but i do think chris gaines is very underrated. take that as you will.

i don't put this into 100% "traditional" country by any means. but if i'm going to hear good NEW music on FM, i'll listen to country if this is what they bring me. otherwise i'm stuck again with repetitive crap (take me to church, wah wah wah) or pummelled with "classic" rock that even then defies singular definition. but i heard something new in an effort to just not hear the same thing over and over and thought that was pretty cool.

I would consider this "Pop Country" not really country music, more like pop music with a "twang". There's always been crossover in music genres, country blues, country rock, country folk. Pop Country has been around a real long time. Think back to people like Kenny Rogers or Glenn Campbell, they had a bunch of songs that weren't traditional country, but were "country-ish" Bellamy Brothers were another example of Pop Country that came to mind.

I didn't really care for the song in the OP, but it had nothing to do with genre of music. I listen to all types of music, just didn't care for that particular song. Like Iceberg listed in the title of this thread....does it matter? He likes it and that's all that matter.

Unfortunately it's tough to find good diverse radio stations, sometimes a good choice are University radio stations.

Old time country was dying. They needed something to draw more younger demographic. Every genre goes through this problem, country should be thankful that it has not had the earth shattering changes and R&B goes through. To be honest if it wasn't for the "Pop Country" shift i wouldn't listen to it all. My step dad was huge country guy, Strait, Travis, Twitty, Ray Stevens, etc and most of it I hated. These new bands while not "traditional" country are better to listen to than 90% of the stuff put out by any other band in all the genres. I listen to rock, hip hop, R&B Metal, now "new country" also. My Ipod classic would make you think I suffer from multiple personality syndrome. Remember even old time country had its outliers like Williams Jr, Johnny Cash, Charlie daniels, etc.

I like everything!!
Texas Red Dirt stuff like Josh Abbott and Pat Green are great but that song in the OP is pretty darn good honestly.
And I really really like Miranda Lambert. .

We should have a Red Dirt thread. I could you 50 songs.
