It is interesting that on the Cowboy forums there has been a few polls about who wins Sunday. Dallas has not only won these, but by an incredible margin.

The majority of the so-called experts are picking San Diego.

Is it just our loyalty to our team or do Cowboy fans really believe we have a better team than the Chargers?

I want us to win and I believe it will be very close, but I have to pick the Chargers. I think we will improve throughout the year, but even without Gates, the Chargers were 7-1 at home last year and have an excellant defense.

We have to many what ifs.

i think we have as good a chance to win the game as san diego does. in today's NFL it all depends on who executes the best. They have good players and we have good players. i believe we can win if we win the turnover battle and play smart football without mistakes.

I picked the Cowboys for one reason only...I am a homer.

However, every year is different from the year before.

Dallas may be last years San Diego.

San Diego may be last years Carolina or insert team who was supposed to be a contender and turned out to be a pretender.

The Cowboys certainly look the part of a revamped team, now all they have to do is go out and prove it.

I had two reasons: I am a homer and I think that if we manage the game corectly we will win.

LOL...i have just been thinking about that as it applies to myself. I thought so much about i decided to post about it on my blog. sorry this is so long but
i just copied the whole thing to here because it explains how i feel too good
to leave anything out.

i have watched the Cowboys all my life, so long that i dont even remember exactly when i became a fan. just to make it easy im gonna say 40 years. so its just an estimate but i have watched 500 of their games i'm sure. people who know me know how much i like them so they are always asking me if i think they are going to beat " whoever ". i always try to act like i have a great analytical mind and i list all the reasons why i think they will or will not win that particular game. it makes great conversation and it beats griping about how much gas costs or how hot it is and stuff like that. BUT...i have a confession to make. I am only telling you folks this so you dont all run out and make outlandish bets and lose your rent and grocery money. I HAVE NEVER STARTED WATCHING THE COWBOYS PLAY A GAME THINKING THAT THEY WERE GOING TO ACTUALLY LOSE !!!! no matter what i may have said during a conversation or on a message board down deep in my heart i always think the Cowboys are going to win. always. thats why i am not a gambler. when i was a kid at school and some kid started spouting off and wanting to bet their team would beat the Boys i always took my lunch money and bet on my team..the Dallas Cowboys. you cant tell by looking at me now but i sure did have to skip lunch a lot in those days. so i learned early on not to bet on them. but i never learned and i dont guess i ever will that they probably arent going to win every time they play. i mean i know it.. but i never quit hoping, wishing. anyway since the season starts thursday (cowboys play sunday )i just wanted to let ya'll know not to take the brilliant, insightful and extremely informative information i put forth here and take it to Vegas and try to make a killing. if you do its your own fault now . having said all that and in spite of the lessons i learned at an early age i now predict the COWBOYS RECORD WILL BE 16-0. (i also just learned how to edit these posts so if you are gonna make me eat those words you better figure out a way to save this page somewhere ) anyway im ready...bring on the chargers...later Poke

I hear ya. My father has had season tickets since the very first year and still has them. I grew up going to games. I love the Cowboys. I run a few football pools and I hate to pick against the Boys, but our pools are large and I must( not easy) try and be unbiased when picking.

on paper, you have to pick SD. We simply have too many rookies that we depend on to perform at a high level which they have yet to show on a consistent basis.
that being said, I am a HOMER and am very excited about our prospects. Therefore, I am sticking to my team and experts can eat crow when Ware strips Brees of the ball and RW recovers it in the endzone for a TD.

I pick the Chargers because I am a homer, and I try the reverse jinx every game.

I picked the Chargers because I am a realist. This was a good football team last year - 12 wins. We have to play them in their home opener with a new 3-4 scheme defense and a bunch of rookies playing key roles.

The only thing that really gives us a fighting chance is Gates' absence.

SD should win by at least a TD. We'd do well to keep this game close.

32 teams, FA, the talent pool is diluted these days. Anyone can win, and Gates means more to SD than alot of people let on. I like McCardell, but the fact is, he's old, and I don't know how much longer he can "play young". At some point, when you get up there in age, you may play a bit yonger than you are...35 isn't the freshest age anymore. Rice was good at 38, but that's Jerry Rice. We could make them very 1 dimensional very fast

Nearly all the pickem polls here on this site pick the Cowboys to win. Even when I know the Cowboys will lose I get doubts as to why the Cowboys will lose after reading many of the reasons why the Cowboys will win from the various posters and their reasons. Many times the Cowboys' players get much better in the minds of some posters than they really are. ;)

I picked the chargers by 10. It'll be close till the 4th quarter, then LT2 will have our defense worn down.

Brees threw 27 TDs last year. 13 of them went to Gates. Two years ago Brees had a 67 rating, last year he had a 104 rating. I don't think he's nearly as good as the 104 rating indicates. I think when you take away Gates he's closer to the guy who put up the 76 rating. Brees was only sacked 18 times last year, in 400 pass attempts. If we apply pressure to him I fully expect him to revert to the guy we saw two years ago. Tomlinson is a huge concern, basically the game hinges on him IMO. If we can contain him and put them into longer passing situations, we're going to be all over Brees and win the game in a landslide. If we give them managable third downs we're going to have to win a close one. Either way I think we're going to win because we're going to apply defensive pressure.

Bill has played this preseason smart, he wasn't worried about scores. He worked hard on things the team didn't do well. Now we're going to see the team do the things that it knows it can do from practice. I think the team we'll see on Sunday will be markedly better than anything we've seen in preseason.

I also think that it's important to remember that the Chargers haven't seen any of our blitzes yet. Bill wasn't going crazy in preseason. So while the Chargers will be familiar with the 3 - 4, they won't necessarily know the intricacies of OUR 3 - 4, or will we run a 4 - 3, or maybe a nickel package they haven't seen. Bill played this very close to the vest in preseason and I think we'll surprise the Chargers a bit. And when you put guys like Demarcus Ware or Roy Williams in a situation where they can get surprise on their side and then allow their playmaking ability to take over, things can get very exciting.

Would you stop with the kool aid? You're getting me too pumped up!!! :D At this rate I might not even make it to Sunday. Between Nors' "San Diego Sucks" posts and this stuff, I'm starting to believe that we are the team that went 12 and 4 and SD actually only won 6. :p:

At the beginning of last year this would have been a matchup of a 10 - 6 team and a 4 - 12 team. And NOBODY would have picked SD to win. Things change so drastically year to year that you can't even bother with last year's records.

Everyone has some if's. I respect the chargers I think they are a good team but I think the Cowboys can win this game if they can avoid self inflicted mistakes. Dallas can't afford to fight the chargers and themselfs with stupid penalties that turn in to drive killers. If our guys play smart we have a real chance.
