Last season was like a good bath after a six-month journey in a chuck wagon.

Problem is, clean and kempt doesn't mean you're ready to eat at the fine linen table. There's still a residual creak in the bones and a weary mind to resolve. Takes a while to find perspective and clarity again.

That's us. Not the Cowboys.

This is a beauty of a roster with good cause and reason to do something pretty special this year. All the important parts look to be there. Holes have been addressed. Those remaining or created have logical solutions to them, and time and place is certainly on the Cowboys side solve the riddles that remain.

Still, we resist. We are beating this running back situation into a bloody pulp. We're acting like Scandrick will never play good football again. We're psycho-analyzing every route Escobar runs, every pass rush Hardy gets blocked, every meaningless throw of a backup quarterback. Nary a serious injury to a key player yet, and we act like Hawkeye and Beej are elbow deep in bloody field wounds.

Here we are, wannabe believers with a qualifier attached to most everything we throw out there, as if we need to apologize for a scoche of optimism. The shoe's gonna drop, and the curtain's gonna fall on us all. That's what happens after the sunshine peaks through the clouds around these parts.

We have to learn that this time's different. We're finally one of those teams again, like back in the good ole VCR days. This is a really good football franchise with years of the same ahead, and the right culture at the heart of it all. Finally.

So worry not what Thursday looks like. Let it happen, and stop fretting over every missed block or a minor injury. Garrett and his staff know what they're doing. They'll be hitched up and ready for the Giants, mark their word, not mine. Ugly preseason games often accompany championship seasons.

That's what I tell myself. I still haven't come to terms with it all. Still seems too good to be true.

Well......that's what 20 years of lunacy will do to a fan.

Wait until you read the posts about our vanilla offense and generic defense we play Thursday night.

By games end you will wonder how we could beat a high school team.

There are still a few crucial decisions left to be made but I'm about ready to sit at one of those tables with the fine linen. After about 18 years of sitting in line in the waiting room, it's definitely about time.

Someone tell the mods...I think Mickey Spagnola may have stolen Erod's login info on here. This kind of stuff can't be allowed to happen.

j/k

Erod, as always, well written and very entertaining. You really did seem to channel Mickey on this one, though.

Oh, Lord. Now that's a shot across the bow.

I'm fighting it, too. My inner-2000s negative fan is wanting to show himself. Hard to imagine this thing is pointed in the right direction, but it is.

Yep, the coordinators always take a beating in these. They watch about zero minutes of film before these money-grabs.

No question, there is alot of positives to point to: the complete and total retooling of that defensive line for me is line one. The Cowboys did in 2 offseasons, what took a half a decade to fix the offensive line. Pretty impressive, all things considered. Add to that what looks to be some decent depth in the secondary and the Cowboys may not need to lean on the running game like they did in 2014.

I wish I could end it there, but I just can't - I'm still concerned about that running game, though.

I really wish the game thread would be titled "teams dont open the play book in the preseason"

I never worry about pre season outcomes. I always like seeing 1st unit's going out and being productive then out of the game. Once you get to 2nd and 3rd string it is more about individuals trying to make the club than it is about team

I hope the Cowboys lose every preseason games.

It would not bother me but living in Houston I would just as soon win the last one vs the Texans. They just take too much pleasure anytime they can beat Dallas.

Let them have some fun also, bro! That's all they ask for. lol

Like most teams that hate the Cowboys, they would rather just win a game against the Cowboys than win a meaningful game!

NO no no, they get carried away acting as if they won the SB. They do not deserve that satisfaction.

Was just thiniking about this this week... it's definitely like retraining your mind. Part of me keeps thinking the bottom will fall out and then I slap myself saying why can't we be perenially good? Why can't we be like the Patriots or the any of the consistantly good teams? Why not? We can. I just need to retrain my brain... Thanks for posting.

That's what I've been saying all along. It's not the team that's the problem, it's your brain.
