Coach Bill Parcells is Considering Sending back-up Dallas Cowboy QB Drew Henson to Europe
Originally posted by Dallas 31 from a sports forum:

He then doubled back and said that it isn't definite that we are going to do that, but that we are considering doing that to get him some more game experience.

idk, NFLE is a waste of time IMO, you're not running your team's playbook, aren't throwing to your team's receivers, only thing you get out of it, is going against watered-down competition, but whatever, if BIll decides it's right, then so be it

When we signed Bledsoe to be the starter last year, we should have sent Henson to NFLE because we all knew he wouldn't be playing QB this year.

Nevertheless, I think it is definitely the right thing to do. 2006 is going to be Bledsoe's again so we should be working towards getting Henson ready for 2007. Besides, it will get him away from the idiots who decided to change his throwing motion only to realize they made a mistake and have him revert back to his old mechanics.

Henson is obviously not starting next year, we have Bledsoe for that. Europe wont hurt him, that isnt the kiss of death like it was with Hutch. he needs experience and is obviously not going to get much if any experience as of yet.

Just listened to it myself. Here is a recap of what Parcells said to the Detroit media...

Q: "Where is Drew Henson at right now?"

A: "Drew is still in a little bit of a developmental area. You know, it's tough to give a quaterback many turns during the season. You know, he was gone from football for quite a while. I think he's improved, he spent a lot of the time in the offseason here working with us. And I don't know what will happen as we move forward here, but I got to get him some playing experience here shortly. And so I think possibly Europe would be a consideration, I'm not saying we're gonna do that, I'm just listing that as a possibility here as we go forward. But I think he needs to play in some games and more than you're able to get in preseason, you know you can't get that much."

My take... There's no question Henson needs some playing time. Not sure Europe is the answer, because usually the player is in a different system of a different team and often beat by the time he gets back, and that could affect the rest of his training camp. But if he has a good showing and stays healthy, then maybe being tired isn't that big a deal for a backup QB. So if it's the only option to get more playing time than in preseason, then I'm for sending him there to gain some experience.

Thanks for the transcript of it. I don't mind him going to Europe at all. It would give me an excuse to watch NFLE again.

No prob. Yea, actually I would end up watching every game of whatever Europe team he played for...that'd be fun to watch during the NFL offseason now that I think about it more.

It doesn't sound to me like Parcells' mind is made up but it does sound to me like he's happy with him so far.

Henson's a good kid and he'll be a good player here. I've heard that the organization is very happy with him. I'm having to be patient but Drew Bledsoe makes that easy this year. He's playing great.

Agreed..Henson simply needs experience and a little more grooming before we can reasonably throw in the towel. Drew Bledsoe takes a little of the pressure off Henson and may buy him a year or so to show what he can become..worst case he is a backup or gone after a few years.

If we send him all it does is prove that, other than throwing him to the wolves, we completely screwed up his development.

He showed great promise in year one, and instead of giving him that experience we chose to screw with his motion which caused a set back.

NFLE in year 3 is the kiss of death.

With Romo nothing more than a career back up...don't fool yourselves...we may be screwed at QB long term, if Parcells is in fact going the Hutchinson route with Drew.

I agree BZ......I don't expect to see Henson on the roster net season........I would like to send the idiot that tried to change his throwing motion to NFL Hades.

Remember - there will be other QB's sent to NFL Europe. Its no sure fire thing that he would be a starter there. :) j/k

Henson has to be down and out from a confidence level. May be his shot to turn it around and come back with some relevant experience.

Parcells is not fond of NFL Europe I've noted over the years. Kinda like a minor league for fringe guys. Chatch didn't benefit
