Cowboys summon Tony Romo for some draft advice

IRVING, Texas -- http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/dal/dallas-cowboysDallas Cowboys officials summoned quarterback Tony Romo to the Valley Ranch facility on Friday to look at some tape of prospective draft picks before the start of the draft.

Romo told Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones he liked what he saw from tight end Gavin Escobar, and wide receiver Terrence Williams, who eventually became draft picks.

Romo also told Jones he liked the pick of center Travis Frederick, the first rounder from Wisconsin. Romo told Jones he now feels he'll have that extra second he needs to make plays because Frederick is a big, strong center who Jones said can become the foundation of the line.

"We were very interested in seeing specifically spend our time with Tony on Escobar and Terrence Williams and one other receiver," Jerry Jones said. "We just wanted him to spend some time looking at it and he does a good job of that. We wanted to visit about the very thing that (coach) Jason (Garrett) has addressed and that is Escobar: 'How confident will you be? What do you think with that package with (three) tight ends in there?' He's got a good perspective."

It has been a very Romo centric draft so far. Even more so if we can get another linemen and/or running back in there for him.

Ummm...this worked well with Aikman and David Lafleur.

So will Costa slide over to guard? I still think Costa deserves a shot. He's young and might become a solid starter. But Frederick was the highest rated center in the draft. So he should start there.

I like that they involved Romo, but why publicize it? Now Romo will get blamed for draft picks.

Jonathan Franklin please!

Taylor would be fine too, imo

Solid in all aspects of the game and even the best pass protector--which is huge for a rookie

Right, so because it didn't work out once 15 years ago, we should never do it again.

Sounded like they view costa as a center and if he is one of our five best lineman they would move frederick to g.

I just feel that would be counterproductive. We got the best pure C in the draft. He'll still likely be our best G, but I think we could maximize his talents at C.

Hopefully, Romo said after the rounds: "You know, Jerry, there's nothing wrong with adding a few, quality veteran linemen, too, to protect your franchise quarterback."

IT worked with Aikman and LaFleur no one saw that LaFleur would develop a degenerative back condition.

I love the idea of Romo having Escobar, Witten, Austin, and Dez as targets in some (maybe many) sets. People say "what about Hanna? What about Harris? What about Beasely?" You know what I say? Don't change your approach because role players did something nice in a game or two
