That year TE was the only team need and they were going to pick Gonzalez. No other team in front of them looked to want to draft a TE but one traded up in front of them at the last minute and and snatched TG away. I'm sure they were a little stunned but since Aikman had also reviewed LaFluer, they took him due to team need. There was no one else in that draft who could have reasonably had a chance to earn a starting job or so it seemed at the time. I'm sure there were guys who developed into great players and would have been starters but that's just how good the team was back then. TE was the only opening in the starting 22 and they drafted for that need. I still believe losing out on TG is one of the reasons Jerry trades up a lot.

i think it is great to see romo input on players. romo should be able to tell if a tightend is good or not since he has one of the best in the game in witten to compare to. also the wr pick was a good one for me because finally we might be able to put Austin in the slot more which is where he makes his best catches from.

Well...it cannot be disputed that Romo spent most of last season running for his life and that a lot of that rush came up the middle.

From Frederick's videos he rarely, if ever, gets pushed back.

I would also suggest this had a dual effect.

1. Get Romo's perspective.

2. Have Romo say that he'd be confident throwing to them and plant that seed so that when you have them in the game Tony doesn't ignore them and look for Witten.
