But remember folks, Jason is the architect of everything going on out there now.
I just don’t get keeping Garrett with Jones’ mindset from that quote. He basically said he wants something new and innovative buts expects Garrett to push back against it. If you want a new offense, go hire someone at HC that will bring it. You don’t keep the guy stuck in 1996 at the top and tell the people under him to fix it all. All I can figure is that he doesn’t want to pay Garrett to not be the coach and likes next year’s possible coaching landscape better thatnthe current one so he decided to ride this year out and see what they have in Moore before cleaning house.
Changing and changing for the better or changing and being good enough because you've changed are not one and the same.
Jerry has changed!
Jerry has gotten better!
Jerry still isn't good enough!
Very true, but Jerry has done this before in 2013 when he took playcalling from Jason and gave it to Callahan. Jason secretly took it back near the end of the season, and Jerry had to again remove it from Jason's duties and made him find another OC that would call plays.
I still theorize it was Tony who went to Jerry and told him we need someone else because Jason simply isn't very good at it -- I can't think of any other reason why Jerry would forcibly remove playcalling from his adopted son HC who wanted to do it himself. It's probably why Jerry still knows to not let Jason do it.
He wants new but so stubborn to prove Garrett wasnt the wrong hire and insists to prove us wrong with him
why waste a year of the team and the fans time trying to prop up his puppet if that is the way he feels then fire him how do u think the coaches all feel when they hear him say this and if garrett had any back bone he would of quit most coaches wont coach with just a year left on their contract no wonder the cowboys haven't won any thing in the last 23 years the owner is really a joke and he has turned the franchise that way
This is every good football team.
Great teams have a multiple great coaches on staff. It's not just belichic, but his coordinators also do a great job, their position coaches do a great job, even the training staff etc. McVay also has very good coordinators and assistants helping him.
Total culture change when he took over. Everything we did, how we did it, was changed by Garrett.
You wonder if it somehow got more difficult to fire him as the years mounted because Jerry would have to admit he wasted time on Garrett and blew the careers of guys like Romo under this guy.
Very true. Someone asked earlier in the thread well what is Garretts purpose now on the team? What exactly does he do here? The same thing every head coach that has a offensive coordinator and D coordinator does. He's a walk around head coach overseeing everything basically. The same thing that Ron Rivera does. And even though I hate the comparison, the same thing Belichete does. I'm sure there are plenty of head coaches that have OCs and DCs under them that run their own preferred systems. And even though we all as fans don't like it, theirs something about Garrett that the players love playing for. They go to battle for him. They rally around him. Their all in on his "message". Whatever that might be. Those are all his strong suites as a head coach. So let him continue to do all those things because to a point, it works. And let his cordinators "scheme" and "adjust" during game day.
Could it be that the main reason that Garrett is still the HC is because Booger would have to pay him anyway not to coach? Then, he would have to pay another coach on top of that and anyone who thinks just because he's a rich man, 6M doesn't matter hasn't spent any time around the really rich. You would be very surprised what really matters to them.
What other owner or GM have you ever heard publicly undermine his HC like this? This after making him crawfish on the Linehan statement. I am beginning to think I was way off base on Garrett being family. Hell, why openly emasculate your HC? Who in the hell does this? No one except this flaming ahole.
And that comment about the talent? That's all ego and blame deflection, not my fault.
Sucks about Jerry
That said, if Moore is the kind of guy who would actually call him like that, screw him too.
same old story from Jerry for 22 plus years now, when is that change coming again? lol
Let's hope it's make or break time. We'll see, eh?
Oh man, for some reason I'm reminded of Jerry lowballing (and hiring his entire staff) Terry Donahue 20 something years ago. He just has no respect for the head coaching position.
If the offense is even remotely successful, Moore will be the HC in 2019.
I know we hate Jerry’s meddling, but I’d rather that than leaving Moore powerless to open up the offense this year.
Do we know that Garrett didn't call him like that when Wade was there?
Booger hasn't changed anything but the voices he listens to. In fact, he's worse than ever before. He's been more vocal this year than any before and there was a time he wouldn't have even considered making a comment like that. You are right about time and he's trying to use that he has left to show how really incompetent he is as a GM.
I wonder how any prospective future HC's of this team heard that comment. Think any one of them would feel better about being his HC now?
I do not like Garrett as the HC and haven't for some time but it is one thing to go into a lame duck year but to do what Booger has done with the Linehan thing and now this is as if he's trying to weaken his position with the only group of guys that can help him.
But on the bright side, maybe Garrett and all of us will get lucky and Booger will go toes up before the next off season. And before anyone jumps me for hoping he dies, that's not it. There are X number of men in his age bracket that will yodel their last tune this year, I don't see why he can't be one of them and exchange places with a guy needing a break.
CC, big bro, Greg is going to come after you for talking this way about his favorite GM/Owner!
You're saying that, if Jason won in the way, say, Jimmy Johnson did, he could tell Jerry to shut up and Jerry would listen? Interesting idea. Not sure I agree with it, but it's an interesting idea.
It's not accurate to say JG has done nothing, btw. He hasn't done enough, but he's had some accomplishments. I'd argue the things in the way of taking the next step have more to do with the organization than the coach, but I know you disagree.
