IRVING, Texas -- When the Dallas Cowboys cut safety Will Allen on Tuesday they challenged members of the practice squad to earn a spot on the 53-man roster with their work in practice.

Linebacker Cameron Lawrence won the challenge.

Lawrence was signed to the active roster after Friday’s practice and will be active for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders.

“Hopefully I’ll be on kickoff return or kickoff, so I’ll actually be starting the game,” Lawrence said. "That’s when the intensity is high and that’s always when the stadium is loudest, too. I’ve been out there not even in pads on practice squad and chill bumps just run down my spine just itching, wishing to get out on the field. Finally got that opportunity.”

Lawrence was among the Cowboys’ final cuts in training camp and has spent the first five weeks on the practice squad. He was second on the team with 16 preseason tackles and also had a tackle for loss, quarterback pressure and pass deflection.

With injuries to Edgar Jones (groin), Lawrence will fill an immediate special-teams role. Linebacker Justin Durant has been slowed by a groin injury but practiced on Friday.

Maybe he can rush the passer? That would be so refreshing to have a pass rush.

I forgot he was even with the team anymore. After seeing him in preseason, I wasn't impressed. I don't know what the Cowboys see in him. Hope he does well.

I was expecting Vega to get the call if Hatcher's stinger kept him out or Jakar Hamilton in place of Allen.

“We may be a little thin at linebacker but definitely special teams, that’s where they want me to contribute,” Lawrence said, “and I’m going to do that.”
Doesn't sound like he will get many defensive snaps.

They activated him to play special teams. It's not complicated.

We have A LOT of those specialists on our team already, Bosworth,Mccray,Jones,Greenwood,Rayford, not sure why we need another guy that can't do anything but ST.

This guy, at LB, always seemed 1-2 steps behind all of the action on the field in preseason. He didn't look fast enough, never seemed to be in the right position to make a play and couldn't shed blocks.
How many special teams gurus do we need?

you mean like spencer?

you do know he is an undrafted rookie right?

he played against sec teams...not some weak colleges.

and you know what...he played pretty damn good.

be glad we got some good young talent coming up...

what's wai?

suprising and wai?

what language is this?

Do you seriously not get it that hi-light videos show hi-lights? they show the best of the player? they don't show what doesn't look good (and the reason he wasn't on the team in the first place over the rest of the 53)?
