It's now 2017.

Knew someone would use that poor excuse to dismiss the possibility that he's still our best corner. He played in 2014 and did so at a high level. He missed 2015 with a serious injury. Then he returned in 2016 and was OK coming off his serious injury. So he's had ONE YEAR since his injury, a year he was coming off that injury, to show us he can still play at that level.

A healthy Scandrick is/was very good in coverage. Almost top end. His ball skills are abysmal though. If he could have converted half the balls he were in position to pick he would have been a no doubt Pro Bowler. I can't count how many times he'd have great coverage only to give up a catch because he can't track the ball. But the ball skills are part of the whole package, so he is what he is. Plus he's played 16 games once in the past six seasons.

This summary is a home run in describing the player and the situation the Cowboys have with Orlando.

Let's not trash on the guy though...he IS a very good cover when healthy and I really don't see evidence that lack of desire, commitment, effort has been a problem. Just health and lack of hands.

Now if he can be as healthy as they can get, all the rest will take care of itself.

Some good news and quotes from Scandrick here. I was worried that he'd be a problem after all of the trade talk surrounding his name, but thankfully it looks like it's only motivated him further.

I'd much rather hear about him being fired up than being a problem.

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick was initially miffed about his name coming up in trade rumors during the 2017 NFL Draft last month

And that was before the team finished a defensive-heavy draft with the addition of three cornerbacks, including two who could conceivably replace him in the slot in the form of Colorado’s Chidobe Awuzie (second round) and Michigan’s Jourdan Lewis (third round).

I like seeing my boy OScan fired up. He can always use some extra motivation. They all can. It seems like ages ago when a bunch of ill informed people that should remain nameless thought Mike Jenkins would beat out my boy OScan.:lmao2: & he just keeps right on making his detractors look silly.... Now he's fully healthy and ready to beast along with our fresh new stable of secondary beasts. a wonderful problem to have..

"Poor excuse"? Pfft! Please. The "poor excuse" is pointing back to 2014 in an effort to find success. That's "poor".

This is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league. Sorry if that fact offends you, or Scandrick. Nobody - other than you - cares about 2014. We care about 2017, and 2018, and 2019.

And we hope that Scandrick rebounds and plays great. That's better for all of us. But the fact is that his most recent body of work was lacking and he needs to turn it around. Or he won't be here much longer. That's the cold, cruel, reality of the job he signed up for.

As Will McClay recently said, "I love you like a cousin, but it's my job to replace you."

Except when he was the best corner we had three seasons ago when he was last fully healthy.

He was never a starting guy outside. He is and always hasn't been a slot corner. Good at his job, but that's his job.

Except when he was the best player on the defense in 2014. You conveniently want to overlook his play the last year he was healthy.

It's a poor excuse because he missed 2015 and was coming off injury in 2016. The last year he was healthy was 2014, when he was defensive MVP. If he is healthy, do you really expect him to not be closer to that form two years removed from his injury that he was in 2015 and 2016?

Now, I agree that he has to show that he's back to that form, but I've never said that he doesn't. All I've said is that if he returns to form then he's likely the best starting corner we've got. His body of work before his injury supports that.

Let me ask you a couple of simple yes or no questions.

In 2014, was Scandrick one of the better corners in the league, as in among the top 10 to 15?

If he's healthy and returns to that form, should he start?

I'm not "overlooking" anything. The guy had a great year in 2014!

So did Tony Romo, a guy that's now out of the league. If you want to keep watching old highlights, feel free. I'll watch the games happening today.

So you believe if Romo had not suffered an injury setback that he wouldn't have been any good last year?

If you believe that if Scandrick suffers an injury setback he won't be any good, I'm right there with you. I also would not disagree that he might never return to that 2014 form. We don't know what toll his injury has taken, if any.

All I know is that if he returns to his pre-injury form then he should start because 2014 proved his value in that role.

Jenkins was better, I don't know why he couldn't stay at that 2009 level though.

Hate to say this stash, but if anything is motivating Scandy, it's the fact that he'll be auditioning for another team all year. With his contract $$ coming up, he's as good as gone after next year. He's now on the wrong side of 30 and can't stay on the field.....

Never knew why Scandrick got so much hate. A lot of people were butthurt about his contract, which was actually a great deal.

I like him. And when he's healthy he's a pretty good slot CB, that's a difficult position.

I think they just shopped him to see if anyone would overpay if they didn't get a CB they wanted in the draft.
I don't hate him as a player. I can't stand him as a person. He's a grumpy *******. I've never had a pleasant experience meeting him.

It took Scandrick a while to become the starting-caliber corner he was in 2013 and 2014. I certainly hope the injury and time have not robbed him of the ability to be that player again. If it hasn't, I do believe he'll be our top corner, although if someone outplays him at his best, I'm all for that too.

Some players come back from these injuries like they've never been injured while others never fully recover. If he isn't much improved over last year, he might still be our best slot option until the rookies get a little experience under their belts.

I hope Scandy makes me look silly, but I doubt he even plays 10 games this year. And the ones he does play in, he'll be playing hurt and will use it as an excuse for poor play. I hope I'm wrong, but his days in Dallas are numbered. I honestly don't think he'll even make it to the regular season healthy.....
