Cowboys-Commanders rivalry dying?
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/nfl?page=2

It got so mouthy and chippy in the Meadowlands last week that, at least in the opinion of several Cowboys players, their most intense NFC East rivalry no longer involves today's opponent, the Commanders, or even the hated Eagles. It's the Giants. Even if the Valley Ranch opinions are right, and the Giants' rivalry is now the most bitter in the division, nothing has changed in Washington. On that city's hate parade, the Cowboys are still No. 1.

I think the Giants' game is so chippy because they have a team full of scumbags.

Talk talk talk, thats all they do.

This rivalry is still one of the biggest in all of sports.

There is a reason year after year that these tickets are the hardest to come by regardless of team records.

Red Sox vs. Yankees.
Lakers vs. Celtics.
Ohio State vs. Michigan.
etc.

The reason the Cowboys were left in the NFCE when they realigned was because of the rivalries.

Its funny every year someone in Dallas or Washington or <random city> tries to put to bed one of the biggest rivalries in all of football.

Well I hate everything about the Commanders and someone saying its not important doesn't make me full of forgetfulness. I was watching the Bills Patriots game and it was a disgrace to football, there was more Patriots fans at that stadium then Bills. If we were 14-1 and the Commanders were 0-15 the Commanders fans will still be there wanting to get the upset and humiliate us. Beating us would make their season. They don't care about playoffs or super bowls, if you want to stay a coach in Washington you have to beat Dallas. And if they get a playoff win the process of humiliating us, we will never hear the end of it. The "We Want Dallas" playoff game is a great example of this. Commanders Hate!

I want to see them swept every year. I wish them sadness and misery. They should fire their coach mid year, hire Marty, fire him and then hire Norv then fire him and hire Gibbs again. They should trade their draft picks for more luxury seats at their stadium. Sorry Im ranting...

The Giants and Cowboys are a different rivalry.

The Eagles and Cowboys are a different rivalry.

They still exist with the Commanders rivalry, so stop trying to downplay it.

Yeah, in an overall sense, the Giants organization is not that repugnant unlike the Eagles and Commanders and their fans are more normal. However, they have a lot of mouths on the team that are now easy to hate. It started with that ballin crap last year, then Plexiglass bowing after TDs, Shockey , Jacobs, the one with moose antlers for teeth and Umenyiora.

The players are more intense with the Giants due to several loud mouth a-holes over there, but the Commanders have always and will always be my most hated team. There's no doubt the last 10+ years the Commanders have been down and the Eagles/Giants have been tougher opponents and many times more heated.

But regardless of who's up or who's down, I look at it like who I'd least like to see win it all, and that would be Washington, hands down.

You could probably just separate it between what the players and fans think.

Players think the Giants are the bigger rivals (obviously since they're the biggest competition at the moment).

Fans think Skins are bigger rivals due to the history.

Personally, I hate all the other NFC East teams with a passion. But the degree that I hate one team over another fluctuates based on if they're playing well and how cocky their players and fan base are. So right now, I feel Cowboys-Giants are the bigger rivalry.

Dallas/Washington has been dead for years except in the minds of those in DC.

Washington fans circle the two Dallas games on the calender. Those are the two must see games of the year for them.

This year the biggest regular season games for the Cowboys were/are the second Giants, the Patriots, Green Bay and the Jets (only because of the thanksgiving tradition). If given free tickets/transportation, etc...for one game, most fans would choose one of those four.

With that said.
More Commanders, Giants, or Eagles fans on this board ?
More Cowboys, Giants, or Eagles fans on ES ?

Surely the rivalry is alive and well.

What are there 3 Eagles and 3 Giants fans that post here, if that ?

I see we are using the term rivalry loosely here.

They are an opponent. Noone will care if they lose or win by the next week it is over. You lose to the Commanders every single player will remember that game. Fans will cringe when you mention last years Vanderjact missed field goal. And if your 1 game away from winning your division you know which game to blame. The Jets and Cowboys rivalry? Dallas is 6-2 all time vs the jets. Its a tradition to play on Thanksgiving, not a rivalry. The Patriots? Dallas is 7-3 all time vs them. The Packers.. Dallas is 10-10 vs them. We never see these teams. No long term hate can be sustained.

I think its still alive, but I think a Giant rivalry that has never really existed (beyond normal divisional rivalry) is beginning.

Personally through 30+ years of fandom I never remotely cared about the Giants as much as the Skins or the Eagles, both of whom I have always despised.

But I agree with the article that this Giant team has been full of some serious whiny b*itches the last couple of years - unlike anyone on the Skins or Eagles (other than McNabb).

I will always dislike the SKins and Eagles on principle even if I respect some of their players at times (I got nothing against guys like Monk, Green or Riggins), but I really personally detest the current Giant squad.

A rivalry is when that game matters more than the rest of the season combined. Ask an Ohio State or Michigan fan if they'd rather lose every other game but win that one or win every game but lose to the rival. A great many will tell you "lose all but that one". That's a rivalry.

I agree with what you say, because theres a hate and animosity between the two teams. Ohio and Michigan hate each other, Michigan would "rather lose to Appalachian state then lose to Ohio." Their players and coach opted not to go into draft and retire just to get one more shot at Ohio.

When a game is a must win that doesn't make it a rivalry that makes it a critical game.

Buffalo has a one way rivalry with Dallas. We could care less when we played them this years, but their fans and former players hate us so much for taking whats theirs that they will never forget.

I believe a rivalry can't be built on 1 game, we need to win this game or we wont make the playoffs, therefore its a rivalry. Our players hate New England and want to get revenge, that could be a rivalry in the making, but can take years to cultivate and would require many year superbowl runs by both teams. We can go into the playoffs and Lose to Seattle, this would probably create a hatred between the two teams.

I didn't mean to imply that Dallas had a "rivalry" with any of the four teams I mentioned, I said that to imply that there are bigger games on the schedule for both the players and the fans. Games on the schedule bigger than the "rival" means that it's not a true rivalry any longer.

Washington and a majority of its fans still see the rivalry. A few Dallas fans do but for the most part it's dead. Plus that fact really PO's Washington.
