This is comical, I thought Steven was putting an end to this nonsense. These idiots (meaning the front office/Jerry) never learn. The whole insanity thing...doing the same thing over and over again yet expecting different results. SMH.

Bring him in and kick the tires. If he's got something give him the bet minimum with nothing guaranteed

Daryl Washington wants to help Jerry Jones hoist Lombardi Trophy
Posted by Charean Williams on June 7, 2017, 10:24 AM EDT

Daryl Washington lives four miles from AT&T Stadium, so close he can see the home of the Cowboys from his Arlington neighborhood. The former Pro Bowl linebacker just wants a second chance, with any team, but admits he would love to wear the star on the side of his helmet.

“Why not be a Cowboy?” Washington told Pro Football Talk over breakfast with his attorney, Daniel B. Moskowitz. “I’m settled in here. It’s home. Let’s try to get one this year. Come on Mr. [Jerry] Jones, you’ll be glad you took a chance on me. We’ll hold up that Lombardi Trophy together.”

So many fans are sitting here saying: "Can't hurt. Get him cheap and give him a shot".

However, if Dallas did and he played well in 2017 - and then did something dumb, getting suspended in 2018 - the fan base would be roasting the Cowboys for bringing in a guy that can't be trusted.

How many of the people saying give him a shot would also complain next year in the above scenario?

My guess is a whole **** load of them.

The problem isn't the money spent... it is what happens if he's still very good? Do you rely on him? Do you not? Will he be here the next season? Do you draft a LB or not? Will he effect the locker room in a negative way? Will he help it in a positive way? If so, what happens when he gets suspended again?

It simply isn't worth the effort and the time spent with him.

I learned a valuable lesson with McClain.

If you handle it the right way, it absolutely worth the time and effort.

The only way this would be a bad idea is if you think the Cowboys front office is dumb. Is that what you think?

What's the worst that could happen? Ro McClain pt. 2?

I know he was good 3 years ago, but he may not even be good enough now to warrant the potential headache he'd be.

I can't say I'd be opposed to a vet minimum, one year deal, though.

Which is probably close to what he'd get.

I always chuckle when this stuff comes up. All we hear about is how the culture has changed under Garrett, we've built this strong clubhouse foundation under Garrett, that the front office along with Garrett have been smarter in contracts, free agency, etc.

Then once a guy like Washington comes along, the same people go crazy saying he's too big a risk to the clubhouse, etc.

If the front office is wiser, if the clubhouse is better, if the culture is better, then a guy like Washington should not be a threat at all. He should be nothing more than a guy who if works out, is a one year asset to a team trying to win a SB this year, or a guy who is basically done and gets cut somewhere along the way.

Good post and you are right about the fans/users on this board. It's always a "heads I win, tails you lose" position when it comes to what the Cowboys do or don't do.

I don't think LB would be "off the board" if/when the Cowboys tender DW. Even if the best case scenario happens where DW is a born again virgin and turns into a really good/dependable player, I still think a LB or two will get drafted.

IMO any team that signs DW will only offer a 1 year, prove it deal.
So, there would be very little guaranteed incase he screws up in some way.

Personally, I agree to stay away, but if the F.O. thinks he's leaps and bounds better than Wilson, then I won't hate the signing.
The dude is 30, so even though he hasn't played in years, the approach should be to find an upgrade for him in the draft.

Right now, with the roster at 90 players, there is little risk in bringing him and seeing how he reacts and performs in TC.

McClain was a different story as he always had questions about where his heart was in terms of football.
Washington did back to back dumb **** and got suspended for ~3 years.

I see no harm in having a looksee. Let the staff judge for themselves on the field and make an educated guess. Is a 3-year layoff too much to make a legitimate comeback? Perhaps we're about to find out!! The odds might say "no soap" but stranger things have happened. ;)
