Ed. Note: Many pictures on the way...

In a two point game, every stop becomes a game-winner. The Dallas Cowboys held Minnesota to a field goal or less on ten of their eleven drives. Every one of those successes was a game-winning defensive stand. One of them was almost entirely attributable to sixth-round cornerback Anthony Brown. In the third quarter, Minnesota was moving the ball and had gotten to the Dallas 25 — their deepest penetration into Dallas territory to that point in the game. We pick things up at 1st and 10.

1st Down
Dallas lines up in a Cover 2 look, but Barry Church will come up into the box and Byron Jones will drop back into the deep middle, single-high. This means Anthony Brown (blue circle) will be without real help in press coverage against Charles Johnson.

For a rookie, he's really earning his keep. Sure, he might get schooled every now and then but for the most part, he's doing great. In a year or two with additional development, he should well be among the better, if not the best CBs in the league. Normally, this kid just sticks like glue. :)

That play on Johnson was one of the most instinctive pass defenses I've seen in a while - it was all ball, perfectly timed and executed without looking back.

As Brown gets more comfortable, he's going to start to generate picks.

Oh, man -- would I love to see that! As badly as we need turnovers, that'd be great.

Not only that, but they'd likely have a pretty tough time catching him with his speed.

I'm sure that he & the team are focused on preventing the pass at the moment. It's not catchy, but the kid has literally been on Brown Island for the past couple of weeks against some pretty good receivers - I think Al Michaels said that over that timeframe, Brown had been targeted more than any other DB in the league.

He's getting some extremely valuable experience for a guy that got "thrown to the wolves" and is responding like someone that's well beyond his experience level. He's probably going to develop very impressively at the rate he going -- by the time the playoff games come around, he might well be the defense's version of Dak and Zeke. Wouldn't that be something to behold? I've really got a good feeling about this kid. ;)

Agreed. Brown looks real good. He should only get better and the picks will follow. What a draft year.

A. Brown has gotten into a precarious situation being thrust into the spotlight due to injuries. He's doing ok considered other teams are targeting him. A few bad penalties, a bad burn on TG, but also some real nice clean swipeaways. I think he will improve and do well. He is obviously getting a lot of playing time. He has a good set of legs. I think he is above par for a rookie that wasn't expected to be a big part of the team early in his career like MO or Deon Sanders were..

It sure makes rebuilding the defense in the next two years easier with another corner showing up.

Candidly, I dunno what we'd be doing without him if he hadn't shown up when he did. He's been a breath of fresh air for our defense. Mo is likely to return before the playoffs, from what I've read about him -- that's another encouraging tidbit as well. This is a team that's on the rise, to be sure.

Considering that he was only a sixth round pick, it's like discovering a treasure chest in your back yard. Value picks like that are about as rare as hen's teeth. This year's draft is rounding out to be a godsend. One more draft next year just half as good would set us up like gangbusters.

And if we could only pull off a Jimmy Johnson trade to parlay another good draft. Tony Romo for Von Miller and D. Ware and a second round pick.

On a side note that pass by Bradford to Rudolph was a perfect pass and was clearly dropped by Kyle. Perfectly placed ball. Nonetheless Jones was right there but what a pass. Glad he dropped it.

Our draft gurus in house have been nailing their prospects really well, here of late. I'm thinking I'll simply trust them to pick up some more great youngsters with a full career ahead of them and maybe a decade or so of success to follow. Just a few more on defense and perhaps one or two more on offense could set this franchise up for potential championships for many years to come. It looks very likely that a new era is on the rise.

I like Brown. He just needs to concentrate every play and stop letting guys get wide open behind him.

Like all rookies, the mistakes are bound to happen, just like the good plays keep coming as well. I'm excited to see the potential in him that keeps showing up each week. Once he learns to improve his technique and use his speed to his advantage better he should be terrific. If he combines that development with the ball instincts that he reportedly has, his future should be bright, indeed. The turnovers would really put the icing on the cake. I'd be willing to betcha that Brian Broaddus would approve of this message -- lol.

I've heard guys during the game threads complain about him because he gets beat occasionally. Pulease. No cornerback - not even the greatest shutdown cornerback there is, Deion Sanders - has a perfect shutdown record. If you do, you haven't gone against anyone elite.

Every corner gets beat, especially in this version of the NFL where you can't touch a receiver after five years.

With that in mind, Anthony Brown is doing a SUPERB job. The way he has assimilated the game is amazing. And he's going to get even better. Yes, he gave up a touchdown pass against Desean Jackson, but he's a rookie. And coverage mistakes happen even to veterans.

He's going to be one of the top corners in the game in two years. He's THAT good.

Rudolph has no chance to pull this one in, but had the ball been anything but perfect into this narrowest of windows, its a likely pick, even with Jones’ infamously stone hands.

Ouch!

It’s now fourth down and the Vikings kick a field goal. Stopping them from scoring a TD on a red zone penetration was a huge feat for the game, making four points of difference. For three plays in a row, the Vikings targeted Anthony Brown and gained six yards total. That’s outstanding consistency and performance from any corner, and to get it from a sixth-round rookie is top shelf.
Dallas has a football player in Anthony Brown.

Nice post. Absolutely -- I can see you're a man who appreciates true talent and this kid has that in abundance. It's altogether too easy to nitpick and overemphasize the negative plays that are bound to befall a rookie like himself. Conversely, the good plays speak for themselves.

My son plays corner. I film his games and watch other corners so I've studied a lot of game tape on corner play. It's a very difficult position to play. It's not like back in the day where Lester Hayes and Willie Brown and Mel Blount could just mug you all the way down the field. It requires better technique and lots of speed.

A lot of guys complain why defensive backs don't look back for the ball. Many are taught not to look back. Nick Saban teaches his corners not to look back because once you do that, you're beaten, especially if you're running to either catch up or running stride for stride with a receiver. You have to read the receivers hands and eyes. Only the elite of the elite receivers can keep their eyes and hands from giving away that the ball is coming until the last second.

Anthony Brown played Charles Johnson PERFECTLY on that deep sideline pass.
