To be fair, there are a bunch of players on the defense we haven't seen yet. There is no doubt it will look much different in a few weeks.

The other side of the coin, just one week ago we were all praising out defense for the way they played against Philly. It's still a week to week league.

So to say it's the worst this era after one bad game is something I can't buy into.

Small sample size, but the early returns aren’t great.

On the bright side, the next opponent’s QB has looked pretty “meh” (IMO), so it might be a chance to iron some things out before Green Bay. Then again, struggling QBs always seem to find their rhythm against Dallas. Guess we’ll see.

It’s still 2 games so I won’t overreact just like I didn’t overreact due to a close loss to Philly or because Guyton looked like garbage last week which apparently is an upgrade from hot garbage and deserves praise.

It’s only 2 games, and we have an easy stretch coming up. I expect a big win against the Bears, a loss to the Packers (sky is falling) and then 2 easy wins against the Jets and Carolina. Then we have very winnable games against Washington, Denver, AZ and Vegas.

Fire up the Super Bowl train, there’s a good possibility we’ll be 8-2 before we face good competition again.

While we avoided 0-2 and all that comes with that with a win I came away with more concerns than reliefs.

Our defense made a QB on his last legs look in SB form as Wilson threw for about 450 yards. And that was after they were flagged for almost 200 yards in penalties. How many leads did we give up. Truly incredible.

I can’t recall coming away from a win so discouraged. This defense is even worse than I imagined. Could be our worse defense this era . And we’ve had some bad ones.

It’s highly unlikely that some guy currently not on an NFL roster could be added to this defense to make it significantly better.

There is a reason a guy like Jadaveon Clowney is available. If his name was “Joe Smith” or any other name we have never heard of, we would be saying, “Who’s that?”

IMO Clowney is a “meh” signing.

He's also a likely progress stopper for Eze and/or Houston. I would prefer seeing these younger guys play and potentially grow into solid DEs over Clowney who will be playing on a new team next year.

They were awful last season and lost their best player......they WILL be bottom 5 defense this season

Positives: Clark has been a big pick up. Clowney coming.
Temporary negatives: 2 of our top CBs have been out. We've got a new scheme for our defense. Both contributed to our main problem - giving up lots of big plays in the secondary.

We lost our best player, but losing him also means we lost a liability on the dline for run defense.

Also some addition by subtraction by getting Mazi off the field.

I think we'll be better.

I’m not sure how we can predict to win games we won’t be favored or expected to win like with GB, Wash and Den all playoff teams from last year. Especially GB and at Denver. Perhaps we can split with Wash.

I do expect or look for us to be favored against Chic, Car and Jets. And we’ll see where we are when we face AZ . That could be a toss up.

I see at least 3 more losses before the Bye. 5-4 is my most optimistic view. Maybe 6-3 if we can upset someone. But while we could win one of those we aren’t favored in we certainly could lose one we are.

Then after the Bye it becomes really brutal after going to LV with 6 consecutive games against playoff teams from last year including KC, Det and Phil in consecutive weeks.

Assuming we can stay healthy with all of our offensive stars and OL which we are already missing our center and get some defensive starters back I could see maybe 8 or 9 wins . Which could keep us in Wildcard hunt.

See, that wasn’t so hard, was it? I think that’s a very fair response. Of course none of us know what will happen due to injuries and the fact that we’re still only about to play the 3rd game of the season, it was just my gut feeling.

Our secondary will continue to be a liability and Bebee out will hurt a bit but I think we “should” have the upper hand in most of the next 8 games mainly due to our offense, especially Aubrey. You’re absolutely right though, after the Bye all bets are off.

I agree it should improve once some starters return. I wasn’t providing a diagnostic for the entire season just providing one after the game.
