Cowboys' defensive coordinator interviews so far

Flores defense is a 70% blitz heavy package with zone coverage.

You need speed dawgs athleticism

I don't see Flores wanting to work under a Defensive HC like Quinn. He'll likley want the defense all his won and IDK if you get that in Washington. Otherwise, what did you hire Quinn for?
That would be an odd match for sure

I'm surprised we didn't at least try to talk to Flores yet. Maybe we can't until a certain time frame? Maybe he only wants to be a HC if he has to leave the Vikings?
So far he has only scheduled two interviews, both for head coach.

Man Zach Orr is an interesting name . Let’s get a DC from a winning program who wants to attack like they’ve done in Baltimore for years . I highly approve .

As far as Banda in Cleveland is concerned ok that’s nice but why not Schwartz did Cleveland not give permission ?

Schwartz is under contract and cannot be interviewed for any job until Monday.

In any event, Cleveland has interviewed him for head coach and has also said publicly they want him to consider staying even if they outside.

He would have to be approved to interview for a lateral move, which they would almost certainly deny unless he told them behind the scenes he was deeply unhappy and wanted to be relased.

Thanks for clearing that up he was my # 1 choice everywhere he goes his D performs . It looks unlikely he leaves Cleveland

Beginning Monday, January 19th, I hope to see in person interviews for #1 and #2 below.
  1. Christian Parker
    • Nothing stopping us unless he (or Jerry) bombed the virtual.
    • Fangio is staying in Philly so if Parker wants to he a DC next year, he will have to look outside. To my knowledge he hasn’t interviewed with anyone but us.
    • Last year he did interview with the Saints, Packers and Patriots
  2. Daronte Jones
    • If Flores is offered and accepts the Commanders DC job, Jones will almost certainly get an offer to be the Vikings DC
    • If Flores gets the Ravens or Steelers HC job, look for Flores to consider following Flores to be his DC, but I suspect he would prefer the Vikings job.
    • This one is a bit of a long shot simply because if Flores takes a job somewhere, Jones won’t be coming here.
  3. Jim Leonhard - If they want to interview Leonhard again, they would only be able to so next week if the Broncos lose this weekend.
    • If the Broncos win, the next chance to interview Leonhard would be Monday, January 26th which would be the bye week before the Super Bowl if they advance or the first day after the Conference Championship.
    • Obviously, this is similar to the Jones situation but worse. Vance Joseph has had six virtual interviews. He cannot interview in person until Monday the 26th at the earliest unless a team just hires him without ever bringing him in for an in person interview
    • The Broncos DC job is much superior to the Cowboys and Joseph is more likely to get a HC offer than Flores.

So, in order of “make it happen” easy to hard
  1. Parker - could hire him as early as Monday
  2. Jones - Could hire as early as Monday but he has some motivation to go slow
  3. Leonhard - Could hire Monday with a Broncos loss but he has strong motivation to go slow.
Honestly I’m a bit lukewarm on the other candidates. They’ve all been with programs who were average to poor defensively last year and I don’t think any of them have the ability to succeed soon with eventual HC potential.

I didn’t list Flores or Schwartz because I consider both to be extreme longshots for various reasons

I mentioned Parker & Leonhard as good younger coaching candidate’s before Dallas brought them in . Parker has the Eagles secondary playing the way you want them to as well as Leonhard / Denver

@jblaze2004

Flores interviewed for the Commanders DC job last night.

It would seem to be an odd fit with Quinn being a defensive coach, but I think Flores is trying to goose the Vikings to up the ante a bit if he can’t land a HC job in Baltimore or Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I had seen you mention Leonhard a week or so ago. I’ve also had him on my lists as well.

Good stuff.

Maybe we aren't interviewing Flores because we know he will eventually leave for a HC job and we want a young guy that will stick around for more than a year? But still even so, I would at least interview Flores.

Does Jerry have bad blood with him because he wanted to sue the NFL at one point in time? He filed a lawsuite against the 3 teams (Miami, Denver, Giants) who interviewed for a HCing job after he was fired by the Dolphins.
