I'm willing to bet the cowboys had a couple of db's with higher grades

According to the reports, they had one CB left on board rated higher. Kevin King.

So now who do you want? Charlton or King?

I'll say this about telegraphing a pick though. The Cowboys just told the NFL they are going CB at 60 when Jones said what he said.

There are CBs on the board but if a run starts, the Cowboys could be screwed.

Jerry and company do talk too much no doubt about it. But also the NFL is pretty aware of what we need so this is not exactly Top Secret.

Now as regards leaving one first rounder= well that is why we have a committee of several deciding this.

The way it was explained to me made sense; Taco was the last DE that was worth picking at that point. If it was a CB that was rated higher then how much higher then the next CB available and so on.

The only idiot GM that ever went BPA no matter what was Matt Millen. Look at what happened to him and what he DID NOT ACCOMPLISH. Taking 3 WRs in four years was idiotic but they were the BPA on the Lions board and really stupid people have this idea that BPA over rides everything else. Well guess what it doesn't.

If you have 20 guy with first rnd grades then you just don't pass on everyone after those 20 are gone

It really depends on how much difference there is for you between a bottom-of-the-first-round player and a top-of-the-second-round player. Just because a corner rated higher doesn't mean it was such a major difference. If there's not a major difference in your ratings, then you go with the greater need.

If Myles Garrett had been available at 28 and Dallas had drafted a corner, then there would be reason to be upset. I'm not a stickler at all for BPA. I believe drafting is a combination of need, fit and BPA. BPA mainly comes into play to the point where you don't reach way down to take a player at a certain position and ignore much better players valuewise ahead of him. Taco could have been 20th and the CB 18th for all we know (unless I missed where the actual values were given.)

Same people that drafted manziel \?? Same ones that didnt draft Dak in round 1 or 2 ??
Same ones that thought Romo couldnt play in nfl?
That's true but they Dallas was smart enough in those situations to trust themselves and not the others or better yet- us.

See, now this pisses me off.

If you aren't taking a 1st Rd player over a 2nd Rd player, wth are you doing with that player on your board?

The draft is loaded with corners. There are about 20 left with 2nd-ground grades by scouts.

Defensive linemen, not so much.

This was the prudent move.

Anybody worried about a big run on DBs here in the 2nd round?

There are a bunch of teams thinking the same thing we are thinking.

Like Yogi Berra thought - its so crowded, nobody goes there any more.

"I think," wars have been started because someone thought too hard on a silly subject. Taking a CB that has a low first round grade over a DE with a high second round grade when there are other corners available with comparable skillsets is not a good decision. If there were no more DE's available with at least the level of ability of Taco then it is no more a reach than Fredricks was. Remember everyone said 3rd round on him and Dallas was stupid enough to ignore them all.... Thank goodness.

David Moore said this morning on the musers that the cowboys had the exact grade on McKinley and Charlton.

I disagree that it confirms drafting a need. What it confirms is that we need 2 positions badly (DE and CB) and the combination of DE 1st and CB 2nd creates a better team than CB 1st and DE 2nd. Pretty simple logic to me

It likely comes down to would you rather have a CB with a 1st round grade and a DE with a 3rd round grade or a DE and CB with 2nd round grades with those first two picks.

well I wasnt knocking dallas experts, more like the rest of the experts on dak.
There is a youtube vid on top 10 player that were undrafted, yet became stars in the NFL. Romo was one of them , warner, moon and some others.
pretty good vid, didnt know about night train and marion mottley.

My point was the experts often are wrong about players, both good and bad, like ones they rate 1st rd that turn out busts,
and others rated low or ignored go on to be stars.

when your picking 28th most guys are considered late 1st early 2nd. NFL.com had him as a 1st rd pick as did most others.
I had him as one of several potential selection for the Cowboys and now he is a Cowboy and look forward to seeing him out on the field.

He has no off the field or health issues that is a nice change for our DE

Yes those same ones. But at least they have all the data, resources and expertise to come up with a well educated decision based on that.

With all that said there isn't a magic formula to tell if their skills translates to the NFL. But I'll take their opinions over YouTube, the zone posters and couch GM's any and everytime.

If you had to bet your life on getting it right, I guess you will trust the youtubers.

But it's America and we're human and have our own opinions and I respect that.
well as fans we have limited info and cant meet with players, so best thing is gather info from various sources and make up your own mind,
based on what others say, and hl reels.

I liked adoree jackson, I think he may be a impact player for tenn, but I could be wrong.
I just looked at one HL reel, and saw some things I liked.
He can play corner and offense, and very good return guy.
He would have been worth moving up to get, but again have to wait and see how he does.

If that is true then he might turn out to be a good pick.
He is a rd 1 pick now, so he should start in sept ,and do some good hopefully.

Not a bad pick at all, for 28.

Media and fans get so wrapped up in the grades. Grades are pointless. I remember the meltdowns over selecting Frederick.
