Cowboys did not have 1st round grade on Taco

Media and fans get so wrapped up in the grades. Grades are pointless. I remember the meltdowns over selecting Frederick.
Lol what? They spend months grading players and assembling a board, just to ignore the grade and go off board. Unless there differences between 1st and 2nd Rd grades is extremely close numerically, it was a reach on there own board.

At least in the presser....Thats NOT what Stephen said.

He said that they had 18 players graded as 1st rounders and there was still one left going into tomorrow.
He did not mention where Taco was ranked.

These guys made that assumption.

He also didn't say the remaining 1st round grade was a corner, but he did say there were a ton a good corners left and they liked their odds of getting a good one in the 2nd round.
So maybe it is a corner, maybe its not.

Did Stephen really say that Taco was not rated as a 1st on their board? I get the feeling that the media added that because I don't think Stephen actually said it.

Months on grading that don't amount to a hill of beans. It's a shot in the dark.

Stephan never said Taco was or wasn't one of the 18 1st rounders. I agree with DFWJC that these writers are assuming far too much. But just like this thread, people aren't going to check it out for themselves. They are going to blindly believe the title of this thread as fact.

That's right.
I just listened to the entire presser a second time and he DID NOT say that.

David Moore and some others are connecting dots as that's what he meant (can understand why with all of the round 2 being full of CBs and them wanting to be sure to get one of their top targeted DEs in the 1st) but he absolutely never said in the presser that Taco didn't have a 1st round grade.

He did say there was one player left on their board in that group of 18 players with a pure 1st grade. King's name has been brought as that guy, but that wasn't said either. It was Moore's "insider" that told him that. Maybe it is.

Regardless....To me, if they had King at 17 or 18 and then Taco at 19 or 20, but maybe 1-2 edge guys in the next 35 but 10-12 CBs in the next 30, it still wouldn't be some big violation to take Taco. But for all we know, Taco and McKinney both may have been in the top 18 anyway....and ahead of the remaining "CB".

You keep saying this, but Stephen didn't say that in the presser. The twitter guys put those words in his mouth.

See, now this pisses me off.

If you aren't taking a 1st Rd player over a 2nd Rd player, wth are you doing with that player on your board?

So if that first round talent was Sidney Jones you would be happy with them taking him over Taco? Or would that piss you off too.

Jaylon Smith was the best talent in the draft last year and people complained cause we drafted him in the 2nd.......can't have it both ways

@DFWJC

So not King.

I think guys like Moore and Fisher get their "inside" information from Broaddus and his minions, who don't really have much inside info.

Broaddus and crew swore that King was rated highly by the Cowboys before the draft started. I think they are just staying with that idea and projecting him as the guy with the 1st round grade that they didn't draft.

Many analysts had Ramczyk as the best OL in the draft.

Foster was obviously highly rated if not for the character issues.

Watt could easily have been rated as a 1st rounder by the Cowboys.

Even the TE Njoku could have had a 1st round grade.

According to Stephen Jones on the radio. The last round one grade they had left was on a RB. Assuming that would be Cook or Mixon.
Good info.

I have to think it was Cook. That guy is a wow player to have fallen to the 2nd round. There was a story about how some guy put out a bunch of fake info on Cook to sabotage his draft status.

I'm still skeptical until I hear Stephen say it, and I don't think he has said it publicly.

Cavanaugh studies players with Broaddus. Those guys have been known to screw up details in the past.

I think until he at least has one practice under his belt, it is kind of hard to say either way if this was a dumb or great pick. I think some people just like cliff diving and that's why they are always on the edge just waiting to jump when they hear news of any kind.

If indeed the last first left was a RB then we did exactly right in taking the best DE left that fit our system.
