we've had 12 top ten draft choices , either by us sucking or via trade.
We've had 10 draft picks from 26 up
18 draft picks between 10-25.
More importantly we've had 10 HOF players from those draft picks while its been argued we should have more. With at least 1 (maybe 2 more a lock for the HOF (Emmitt and Allen))
8 times with no draft pick
3 times with 2 1st round picks

the historic dry periods were 78-88; with the exception of Jeffcoat. Gil and Tom just seemed to start losing it then. By 84 we were getting old and depleted. Tom picked Irvin and got some other guys that were the foundation of the 90s team but overall no where close to what they were from 61-77.
Then of course the second dry spell that was arguably even worse from 94- 01. Outside of LA, Ellis, Flo, Dat, Coakley; what else did we get from that time? Less then one quality guy per year.

There are a lot of different scenarios the Cowboys can end up being involved in with two first rounders. Even though they are low first round, I would expect this years draft to be quite interesting!

You have to like picking hall of fame players 3 years in a row. That's probably a first, unless the NFL decides to put every Steeler drafted in the 70s into the hall.

I doubt that ever happens again to anyone.

The worst of those #1 picks was Scott Appleton.

He never made the team and Dallas passes up on Paul Warfield.

Hopefully Jerruh has learned since he took over for Jimmy and eventually turned it over to Parcells. Dallas is on the verge of being a superbowl contender or average depending on how they address the WR, RB positions. IMO the speed of the offense needs to be addressed and now!

Heaven forbid we don't stick with the speed of last year's offense that put up record setting numbers. A trade for Kordell Steward, Randal Williams, Troy Williamson, Trung Canidate, and Eric Bjornson should get us where we need to be.

Allen doesn't count, he was not a first round pick.

Its the first 3 rds that really matter. You need to hit big time with at least 1, and get a solid starter out of another every year just to maintain. Your second day picks need to find places as backups. We have done VERY well with our second day picks the last 5 years as we have gotten solid starters out of several and a pro bowl out of Barber and a possible star in the making in Ratlif. Throw in Canty who is doing very well and it can be argued that we have done just as well in the second day as the first.

Please remember that Robert Shaw and Billy Cannon got injured early in their careers and could not recover from them.
