Please remember that Robert Shaw and Billy Cannon got injured early in their careers and could not recover from them.

I think Billy Cannon and Randy Hughes would have been stars. Superstars. IMO Hughes was better than either Waters or Harris and I love both of those guys who were great players. And Sherrard was injured and never got the show his real talent. But that's part of the problem. You got to be lucky and good. Hughes goes in the realm of players who could have but not in the same vein as the OP made. I don't remember where he was drafted.

I'm very interested in how the next few drafts go. Good and we stay on top. Otherwise....

Yhea, that was incredible.

3 HOF guys in a row!

and all 3 were on offense. Yet here we are about to draft a defensive player with our 1st pick for the 8th year in a row (4 of them listed as LB in the current roster):banghead: .

Ouch, that tells a pretty grim story.

and some of the "grim story" is exactly why the very legit argument can be made that with a highly talented team, it is a better move to trade up and acquire QUALITY rather than standing pat or moving down (as we did in 93, 95 & 96) and settling for lesser players
