That's why I have trouble seeing us going with someone without DC experience. Usually we like former head coaches who got that job because they were really good coordinators.https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...-hiring-firing-candidates-intel-buzz-32-teams

Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are in position to hunt for a big-name defensive coordinator after firing Matt Eberflus. Minnesota's Brian Flores is on the radar, and recently fired head coaches Raheem Morris and Jonathan Gannon are available. Dallas feels like it has a playoff-caliber offense (second in yards per game this season) and needs someone to tie the defense together. However, people on Dallas' staff felt the defensive problems were "not all [Eberflus'] fault." Roster reinforcements will be necessary. Something to keep in mind: Dallas rarely hires a first-time defensive coordinator. Experience is required.
like who? i feel we went iwth experienced because Jerry doesnt believe in rebuilding or what it takes. He wants immeidate mediocrity. That's why I have trouble seeing us going with someone without DC experience. True but we can't deny that the first three candidates they interviewed are not former HCs. But Leonhard, with Sean Payton's endorsement, could go a long way. That's why I have trouble seeing us going with someone without DC experience. Am I supposed to want Pickens gone?im going on record, whoever wants Gannon is the same people that want Pickens resigned, you are not taking the rebuilding process serious.
And how’s that working out? That's why I have trouble seeing us going with someone without DC experience. Usually we like former head coaches who got that job because they were really good coordinators.
Eberflus. Zimmer. Quinn. Nolan. Marinelli. All considered to be good coordinators but were not-so-great head coaches (although Quinn did take Atlanta to a Super Bowl).like who? i feel we went iwth experienced because Jerry doesnt believe in rebuilding or what it takes. And Leonhard was interim head coach for Wisconsin.True but we can't deny that the first three candidates they interviewed are not former HCs. But Leonhard, with Sean Payton's endorsement, could go a long way.
Not well, although I think Quinn was better than many on here do. I'm just saying it's been the MO. Maybe that will change, but like with free agency, I'll believe it when I see it.And how’s that working out?
Rebuilding? Do you really think that Jerry believes he is rebuilding? Also, what team rebuilds with a soon to be 33 year old QB? Jerry believes he is a few players and a DC away from competing.im going on record, whoever wants Gannon is the same people that want Pickens resigned, you are not taking the rebuilding process serious.
Yes, maybe that signals a change or is No-Schott's influence on the process.True but we can't deny that the first three candidates they interviewed are not former HCs. But Leonhard, with Sean Payton's endorsement, could go a long way.

Hmmm.... considering they let Aden Durde walk on out the building to Seattle, (for Zimmer) maybe it's time to reevaluate that approach!https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...-hiring-firing-candidates-intel-buzz-32-teams

Quinn was definitely the best of the bunch. Not well, although I think Quinn was better than many on here do. I'm just saying it's been the MO. Maybe that will change, but like with free agency, I'll believe it when I see it.
So, in what world has the Cowboys had anything resembling the Seahawks talent on defense the last couple of years?Hmmm.... considering they let Aden Durde walk on out the building to Seattle, (for Zimmer) maybe it's time to reevaluate that approach!
Just me, think we can take Flores and Schwartz off the table.Yes, maybe that signals a change or is No-Schott's influence on the process.
Frankly, I'm not against the DC-turned-head coach philosophy, I just think Eberflus was a poor choice because he is very scheme-specific and the personnel we had wasn't a good fit for that scheme. Flores is a DC who was a head coach. Same with Schwartz. So I don't think we can classify them all as bad just because of ones like Eberflus and Nolan. I think we can say that the Joneses' roster-building philosophy and their choices as DCs has been a bad match.
