IRVING, Texas – By Wednesday the Dallas Cowboys have to decide whether to activate rookie offensive tackle Chaz Green from the physically-unable-to-perform list.

Green, the team’s third-round pick, has been practicing since Nov. 11. He had hip surgery in June to repair a torn labrum and missed the minicamp, training camp and the first nine weeks of the season. The Cowboys have used the last three weeks to evaluate if he can help them this year or not.

If they do not activate him, he will spend the year on the physically-unable-to-perform list and won’t be able to practice for the rest of the season.

“It’s definitely a little rust out there,” Green said after his first week of practice. “Technique is the main thing. Just making sure I get my feet up underneath myself. I felt like I’m in good shape. I didn’t feel like I was tired when I came back. Mentally I was full go as far as my sharpness and plays. I didn’t feel like I was slowed down in that aspect.”...

Forget about him helping or not.. That's out the window. Play him for the experience.

If it's nothing more than a rotation then do that at least.

IMO it would hurt to find out about him.

Ease him in like they did with Collins. Just one series. Then maybe 2.
See what he is able to do and how he is able to develop in game situations.

I am so fed up watching Free. And we need a replacement anyway. Use this season as good as we can to find out about Green.

Nailed it. This was what I thought to. Let him go in for Free a series or two per game. Let him get actual game experience.

Collins is far better now than he was at the start of the year. Can he improve? Of course, but that live action experience cannot be replicated in practice.

Cowboys are too loyal to Free. Green won't see the field this year unless Free goes down with an injury.

Why not, the only difference is Cassel would throw the ball earlier. The coaches would devise a new "1 Step Drop" for him so could release the ball at .75 seconds from the snap. If the first read isn't open, he'll throw it at their feet...it could work. See Tennesee Titans

I would look at the rest of the season as a early pre-season training camp and give the youngsters an advanced look before next season.

Free is definitely the weakest link on the OLine. We can't run to his side and we have to slide help to him all the time. He has no power at the point of attack. His feet aren't as good as they advertise either. It is time guys like Free, Heath and Hayden get upgraded. They can't play significant minutes without hurting the team because our opponents attack them regulary and successfully often.
