I really thought it would have been fitting for the game to end with SF getting the first down and running out the clock. I felt the game ended on them running out the clock. With over 7 minutes to play I felt they’d either run out the clock or add 3 more points . That’s how the game had gone . The fact we even had hope with one last shot was more of a slam that they didn’t put the nail in the coffin sooner than anything we’d done . I looked over to my wife after they punted and said this last gasp won’t end well. Poorly ran teams find ways to lose. And we really had no business winning the way we played this day. And I wonder if the loss wouldn’t have been more easily to accept in such fashion. But receiving that last gasp desperate scenario set us up for another horrific ending that will be embedded in our memories forever. Id argue the game was loss well before that last possession which provides us an escape from how we were dominated throughout the game.
I agree . Hate the Niners more than any team as they were who we would measure up against. Jerry doesn’t care. Wasted a quarter of a century. We got outplayed the whole game. They were more physical, more gutsy. Better coached.
I don't think that was a new way to lose. Got punched in the mouth and folded.....not only have we seen that with past Cowboys teams dating back to when Romo was here but we saw it NUMEROUS TIMES this season.
I get it. But like you said, game was lost before then. We have to be careful in thinking not only we had a shot to win that game but that we should've won. Its the playoffs and you got punched in the mouth and did nothing. The game was closer than it should've been due to Shanahan and Jimmy G's ineptness.
I've been saying this for a long time. Our identity is that we are soft. We expect teams to fold on us because of our name. When teams stand up and punch us in the mouth, we don't know how to respond. It goes back to the circus type atmosphere that Jerry thrives on. Jerry spoils his team and I get that he loves each and every one of them. But that's why he needs a GM. To do those hard things that leaders need to do.
Jerry Jones is never going to realize certain things as long as he surrounds himself with yes men and inferior coaches who won't threaten his camera time....as well as the local media NEVER asking tough questions for fear of being fired.
To me, it all goes back to training camp. The team needed a real training camp instead of the circus act called "Hard Knocks". Dallas was a below average team in 2020 and yet they allowed these people to come in and be a distraction. Same old stuff.Nothing ever changes for the better in Dallas.
I mean its the only thing I can point too....how can I sit here and talk about how this team hasn't done anything in 28 years and blame these current players for it? They weren't here 28 years ago......some of these guys aren't even 28 YEARS OLD...Jerry is the one constant. He's the one that's been here. He's hired good players. He's hired good scouts and good managers....he's hired good coaches....but no one can overcome this cloud he has on this franchise.
A new way to lose? It was the same way. The Rams eliminated them rushing for over 200 yards. 3 years later the 49ers did the same rushing for over 170. Maybe addressing a major issue like this with Trysten Hill and Neville Gallimore and Osa Owhatever and Carlos Watkins isn't enough. Maybe they need to get serious.
I hear ya . Yes we lost this game in similar fashion. But I was referring to final play. And why I think we’d been better off without that last possession. It shadows how poorly we played and soundly we were beat.
Kinda funny according to a few the ref's and league are against the DC, but the re-spot gave them a chance along with the flag that resulted in the punt, but you are correct MM found a way to lose the game. I can only believe he didn't trust Dak to throw it. You are correct the game was lost well before the botched QB draw and the mis execution was just icing on the cake.
Neither QB play very well. One team was able to run the ball while the other...not so much. SF RBs: 168 yards DAL RBs: 45 yards
we have always found ways to snatch defeat from Jaws of victory. we expect to lose. we expect for things to go wrong and when you do, it tends to happen....that's how we played Sunday....we played like we knew we were going to lose and just wanted to keep it close and respectable.....I didn't see a fire. in anyone's eyes or demeanor.
We lost this game on the opening drive, or better yet, in the locker room. The Cowboys were not ready to play playoff football. They did not come out fired up and banging heads. The 49ers 1st drive was a pathetic defensive effort from Dallas. This defense has a habit of not stepping up when the chips are down.
I figured what was going to happen, just to prolong our torture and twist the knife further, the Cowboys would tie, then Zuerlein would miss the extra point for the lead, meaning overtime and the Niners winning there.
Just a random stat trend - Cowboys scoring in the last four playoff games has declined steadily. 31 - 34 v. Packers 24 - 22 v. Seahawks 22 - 30 v. Rams 17 - 23 v. 49ers Also- going back two the previous playoff games - the Lions and Packers in 2014-15 postseason - the Cowboys have started slow in all 6 games AND trailed in every one of them going into the fourth quarter.
They truly lost the game on the drive before the final one. No excuse for such highly regarded offense to not score on the 49ers with 2 minutes 40 odd seconds left, 2 or 3 time outs remaining and 49ers missing Bosa and Warner. They should have headed to locker room after that failed series of downs.
