In my opinion, this is what the Cowboys will do over the course of the next couple weeks. They have probably had this plan in mind all along. They aren't in any rush because they did not want to be active the first few days anyway because of the inflated prices. This is what the plan is and has been:

1. Wait for the market to settle so they can get bargains at position of need

2. Extend Romo over the next few days

3. They are targeting multiple players at a few different positions where depth is needed. So they have fallback options if the others they are targeting get big money

They are targeting 3 positions in free agency. Interior of the offensive line, linebackers and safety. They want very good, underrated players at the right value that are not too old to get better and improve.

Offensive Line:
Donald Thomas
Tyronne Green
Matt Slauson
Chad Rinehart

Linebackers:
Nick Roach
Larry Grant
Daryl Smith
Justin Durant
Safety:
Kenny Phillips
Chris Clemons
Patrick Chung
Corey Lynch

I think you are probably right. I think they may also look at a veteran RB and possibly a blocking TE as well. I would be really surprised if they make a big splash type of guy this year.

I think that makes sense. I'm not familiar with the line and linebackers listed. Are these guys considered upgrades to what we have? I am assuming that the LBs are more for depth.

Agreed.

Where we are possibly missing starters is at 1 Safety position (they like Church a lot) and on the right side of the OL, but particularly at OG. I think they prefer to move Berny to OC - or at least have him compete with Costa.

I think if they can get some depth at Safety in FA, then they can get a starter in the Draft (unless M Johnson wins the competition). And if they can get an OG in FA, they can get an OT to compete against Parnell in the Draft too.

The rest of the FA personnel would be to improve depth and/or role players.

Definitely more for depth. Lee and Carter aren't exactly 100% reliable when it comes to injuries so these guys provide good insurance

Clarence Hill ‏@clarencehilljr According to a source, the Cowboys are now roughly $175,000 under the salary cap heading into free agency..so dont expect any moves #NoMoney

I agree and you can probably add Wil Svitek to the oline targets. They'll need a vet to challenge Parnell on the outside. With or without Svitek it's the right strategy, the start of FA is the time you're most likely to make a poor financial decision.

Romo and his agents are not settling for any hometown discount on his last contract. He wants full tilt boggie money close to 19mil per and 50mil guaran:bow: teed.

So for free agency...expect to see the Boys going to Cabo for an extended vacation. When the Kmart special light starts, expect them to dumpster dive through the remaining trash....

JMO, but I see us brining in a blocking TE, assuming one is available and maybe a lineman. That's it. I think we'll draft a safety in the first. Likely Kenny Vaccaro at this point and let Church/Matt Johnson compete for the SS spot.

LB will sort it's self out. We're looking for a 2 down player. That can be found at any point in the offseason.

And I think only 1 guy between Living, Bernadeau and Costa get replaced. As well as Parnell being the full time starter at RT.

Agree with OP. Here is what happens....vets and other players continue to get cut...cap casualties. As FA drags on and the market bears out, some guys won't get what they thought they were going to and are stuck. That is what the Cowboys will wait for....who is left and who is getting cut because of signings. They then maneuver and try and bring in lower guys. It's their only move unless they slash.

Kenny Phillips is the only real option I see in FA. Personally, though, I do not see them making any moves today other than trying to wrap up Spencer and Romo.

Finally somone who gets it. Big money FA is for the Jags and Browns and Eagles to spend all of their cap room. The best deals are found in a couple weeks when Vets get nervous about their next paycheck. SF got Goldson and Whitner very cheap by waiting. The league is still dealing with some deals signed before the new CBA when the cap was 129m. It is still only 123m four years later and there is some squeezing still to come.
